Anybody with real experience at Sherbourne?
I know its a new school and its therefor hard to assess, so I want to know if anybody has any real experience of this school and its facilities?
Not yet - we are still in Dubai for another few weeks before we move to Doha. However, Sherbourne is on our list of schools that we like the sound of, and are hoping that they will open a new class in Jan as they have almost enough on the waiting list to justify it, so fingers crossed!
As its so new, its hard to get a good understanding of how the school is really doing, so I really appreciate your comments!
I'll start with the easier question first. The facilities are quite good. The classrooms are bright, roomy, have lots of visual aides, posters, etc. They use smartboards, which my kids really like. They have a large sports hall, and sports is actually an area they seem to emphasize a lot. My kids like that as well. As far as I know there is no functioning swimming pool yet, though I understand it is in the works. There is a program of extracurricular activities, and it is going to be expanded further in January.
As for the harder question, are my kids happy? I would say most of the time they seem to be; one of them seems to be having more fun than the other. The school emphasizes discipline and tradition, which (in theory) should not necesserily mean no fun, but I'm not sure how that works in reality. My experiences with trying to communicate with the school has been very positive; I always get responses to my emails, which is a good sign.
Hope this is helpful in any way. Do you have kids at sherborne?
Hi there, I read your post with a lot of interest. I am sorry that your daughter is not happy there Claire. I have two kids at Sherborne and I was wondering what other parents thought about the school and what their impressions have been so far?
I have already private emailed you with regards Sherbourne but was not sure how old your son is? Let me know and will ask friends of similar age how there classes are? All the teachers we have met are v nice and there seems to be a lot of teacher couples with their own kids at the school too. My daughters class has just far too many non english which is slowing down learning for her and she is bored and frustrated. Also 95% boys so hard to make friends.I suppose the early years wiil be better as they wil all begin their learning together? It is a shame to move her as it is so close to home and less travel but she realy is unhappy. Have shirts and PE kit (hardly worn!!) if you are interested?? Gotta try eh?? Good lucka nd for any more info p email me again. Claire x
