Qatar Canadian School?
By holmes5668 •
My wife and I (Canadians) are both teachers. We are looking at overseas opportunities and came across the Qatar Canadian School.
Does anyone have any info about this school? We are looking for positions for September 2011?
Is it a good school? Salary? Working conditions? Are there teaching families working there (we have a four year old)?
Thanks in advance
Look up the Alberta Curriculum online - there should be lots of info on Google. Be aware that the school is supposed to offer Grade 10 this year (but it has said that in the past and never materialized) so if you want a consistent school/line of education be aware this one may or may not offer grade 10 next year and probably not 11 or 12 after that.If your child is gifted, (I don't know the Durham District School Board) this school doesn't offer anything "special" - general curriculum only and they've had double digit teacher turnover this year (and the principal and vice principal have both left this past year so new people there too).
We are recently rellocate to Doha and looking to get my kids in the school. The elder one is in grade 9 (just started), he is from gifted program from Durham District School Board and the other one is in grade 7. I need some guidence about the school and the curriculum they teach (I mean Alberta curriculum). Is somebody is there to help me either by email or call me on my cell phone 551 99 327. Thanks
The Canadian School only goes as far as grade 9. There won't be any discrimination because your child is not Canadian - but the curriculum is Canadian, not "international" - if you decided to move her back to a British curriculum school - I have no idea what the consequences would be - perhaps ask at a British school?
I have applied to the school. And i am waiting for the next step (paying the registration fees). The staff seems freindly when i visited the school. It is a small school and the students seem very polite.
But actually i don't know much about the Alberta Curriculum. My daughter will be on next september 5 years and 3 months so she will be next year in senior kingergarten. she is now in a British school in: reception and if we continue in this school, she will be next year in year 1. I know the it is -as i think-12grades. Am i right?
As for the British Curriculum it is 13 years. So will it be the same or i will be loosing one academic year, if i moved her?
Actually, i want to know also the difference between both curriculums, if anyone can answer me..
And in general, do you know is it a good school or not??
The problem here that it is so hard to find a place in good schools in Qatar.
I am also thinking will my daughter face cultural discriminations for not being Canadian and surrounded by majority of canadians(being Egyptian)?
The main issue here would be the school's acceptance to overseas application. As far as Iknow, they are mainly relying on the spouses of the residents.
There had been problems in the past, but there have been great strides in fixing them. I only hear good things about them right now. The school follows the Alberta curriculum. It is a small school so if you are interested in small class sizes, this would be a good place to be. It follows the Alberta curriculum - and yes it has a library, small, but it has one.
You would be better off applying to CNA-Q or just checking teaching posts in tes.co.uk
Qatar Canadian School is related to CNAQ (College of the North Atlantic Qatar) However, they are separately managed. In the past there were complaints about management but these seem to have been addressed for the most part. Housing may be an issue - most are singles and have flats. The school is not a dedicated building but a renovated villa - no gym no real library no outside play space.
Quality of education is generally thought to not be as good as the more desirable schools in Qatar and the turnover in teachers seems to be quite rapid. Only goes to grade 9.
