Pumpkins!

Does anyone know of anywhere that sells pumpkins - without having to take out a second mortgage??!!!

I know it is a bit of a long shot as I presume they would all be imported - I have seen them in LuLu's ranging from about 300QAR for a smallish one to well over a 1000QAR for a big one - call me tight but I can't justify spending quite that much on one!

I am having a Halloween party for the kids and some friends next Friday and have managed to make some decorations for the rest of the room but it would be really nice to have a real pumpkin!

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the fruit and vegatable wholesale market or the souk?

I thought the ladies at ASD brought the pumpkins for our pumpkin patch from the souk.

Ok so wasn't a halloween store but had quite a big halloween selection - the shop is called Events - it is in the Al Sadd area in Al Watani Royal Plaza - has all sorts of costumes and loads of other party things too! Was fab for us as it is quite close to where we live!

We got an inflatable pumpkin - which is pretty cool and some broomsticks which were only 14 qar each!

And yes Peter - amazingly expensive!!!!! Shocking!

Just had a call from my hubby - he was out and found a Halloween store (not far from a food palace!) Needless to say he is on his way to take me there lol! I shall post back later with exact details in case anyone else is interested! :-)

Dean and Deluca in Villaggio have them for 180 qr each some decent size ones which work out good value as they are not sold by weight.

They also have a giant decoration pumpkin more than 4 feet high which is great for taking pictures with the kids !!

Take few copies of newspaper and make a big ball of them or u can make a big ball of Lulu polybags too.....Just make it big as big u wanna make it... make a paste of Plaster of Paris and glue on the big paper ball and spread it evenly and hand to hand make lines and shapes of pumpkin on it.Let it dry and now make a thick stem on the head of it too...now color it orange with green lines and small blackish lines and stem in green shade...Now apply a coat of turpentine oil on it to give it extra glow too.Voila in less than 50 Qrs r u will get a big pumpkin....U can make extra and sell them too... :)
