Bienvenidos a Doha!

Your wife won't find too difficult to settle down here. There are LOTS of latin women in the same situation and the only danger is that she might not have to use her English that much! Seriously, there are many things to do for mothers with their babies, mostly in English. However, there are the 'minilatinos' from the Spanish Speaking Ladies Association (Amigas Qatar) that can provide her with all the needed information and contacts. (One of the members, Adriana Torres, is the director of Tots Corner, a very good nursery in Doha and another latin lady is soon to be the director of Creative Child)

It will be good for both your wife and child to join all possible activities because he is in the perfect age to grow bilingual...

You can send an email to [email protected]

All the best with your preparations, and don't worry, y'all will be fine.

We are planning to move to Qatar in September, right now we are waiting for Visas, The company said thar it will take 2-3 weeks, but I am concern about my family because my wife is getting an english training right now and she must continue it in Qatar and I am pretty sure about to use a nursery for my baby care (at least 3 days a week).

I will contact the Qatar embassy here, to try to get more info.

How is the wifes lifes in Qatar? Any limitations for dressing? Any activities to do?

I really appreciate your comments because I am sure about the culture impact will be an issue for my wife.

Where are you from?

My daughter is 3 1/2 and for her for 5 days a week it's 1700 QR / month. I think it's 1750 for the younger kids. 1 is the youngest they take. Can go 3, 4 or 5 days a week. From what I have seen the prices are pretty comparable to other places around town.

Is there a Qatar Embassy in Venezuela? Before we moved here I contacted the Qatar Embassy in Washington, DC and they sent me a Marhaba (Welcome) book with loads of info. All the nurseries advertise in there. If not, you can pick one up when you get here. For now, here's some contact info for 3 of the more popular nursuries. All are very nice.

Tots Corner - 468 8008, [email protected]

Elder Tree - 455 1020, [email protected]

Starfish - 487 5939, 580 5830, [email protected]

Let me know if you need anymore info.

I have found it difficult to find part-time babysitters. Live-in nannies seem to be everywhere though if that interest you. Most women I know either keep their kids at home themselves or take them to nursery.

My daughter goes to Starfish Lane Kids nursery and I love it. Very educational place with loads of activities and crafts too. Much more than just free play for the kids. If you do want your baby in a place for September you need to start getting in touch with places and get your name on the list. Nurseries are very, very full.

Best Wishes.
