Biju and lionel2k are right.

Try this Method.

Take some bitter guard juice and dip the baby’s thumb in it. if he/she suck the thumb, baby feel the bitterness. So baby started reducing thumb sucking. Bitter guard juice is not harmful to the baby also.(Neem leaf juice also having same effect)

All the Best.

I agree with Biju Ab... putting chilli powder on a childs thumb is a crazy idea... please dont provide misleading ideas.

another issue with such kids is i feel they are rather insecure and they cultivate such habits only to feel secure. so i guess the best thing is to take out time and give him/her max attention. keep her so involved in something that he/she likes to do that they forget about thumb sucking.. get them tired with lots of play and they will sleep soundly..

i know this is not always possible, but worth a try... atleast the kid will feel that u are providing him more attention and thus feel more secure..

ps: by saying insecure doesnt mean anything bad, so pls dont misunderstand.

What an idiotic idea Mr.atif242 suggested, to put chilly powder on the finger of small baby? if the baby touch the eye or sensitive areas with chilly powder think about it, please do not give these kinds of advise, this is not a subject for joke

I can understand ur worry,, however there shouldnt be actual cause to worry if the kid stops the habit before the age of atleast 5 years. normally it should go before the age of 3.

now if all the techniques u mentioned dint work, then iam pretty sure tyingup the elbow will also not help..or atleast u can give it a try. I've come across two parents who literary tied up the kid's elbow with kind of plasters or films that don't let the child turn his hand to reach mouth. Now again, that will surely need kid's cooperation. Did u try speaking to ur kiddo convincing him about the bad effects when he growup?!

anways,, if all of this dosen't workout,,u will have to visit an orthodontist inorder to fix a crib on child's teeth. This is said to be very effective to stop thumbsucking. Any orthodontist can help you with better advise than I can. :) try speaking to one.

all the best.

There is a HOME REMEDY and i'm hopeful it might work with you too

.

Put some chilli powder on its thumb or any thing which is unharmful but very bitter in taste. So when frequently your baby will get this bitter taste, it will try to ignore it

.

In Addition, its very much important to seek doctor's help

Unfortunately there is not much you can do at this time. As of my own experience, I remember I was sucking my thumb until I was old enough to remember. My niece is the same as your son, her upper jaw is misshaped (narrowed), but they will put an expander so that it goes back to its shape. All you can do it make sure you wipe his thumb as often as you can so he does not catch diseases.
