kid not good enoug in eng, what to do if.....

We came to Doha recently, and now are in the middle of searching for the school for our boys, 14 and 11 years old.
Elder one is very good in English, but younger one is not...yet.
I know he will soon speak good enough to be accepted in the school, but for now, I'm afraid his chances are so poore :( He does understand a bit,and can say something, but still not enough..
We were in Montesori school for now and we were told not even to try to apply since he doesn't speak english good.

I saw on the web sites just a few schools are willing to take such a kid.
Besides,he has dyslexia...
I know he will be able to talk very good very soon, expetialy if he will be involved in some school or some group in wich he could listen, talk and learn.

But here is a magic circle: he doesn't speak well-he won't be accept in the school-he has no chance to learn-he won't be able to pass enterance test-.... and again, and again...

So,we will aply to some schools, but what happens if they won't be accepted to any school ?

Uf,so many things...
Do you have any advice?

What a comment! Tutor will not help? The kid is 11 years and he has to go to a certain grade in school, and do math, history and so on... sports are always good, but in this case tutor - is the must. Get him involved with english speaking children to play.

tutor will not help. You want your kid to learn it while he has fun. I suggest put him in some sort of a Gym (you know Karate or taekwondo or anything fun where they speak english)

1- he will enjoy the sport

2- He will learn without being pressured

3- He will make friends that he will have to communicate with

Hi,

I can recommend Awsaj Institute of Education. I think this will be the best choice in your case. This year the focus of the school is on language and reading which will help your son build some background knowledge. The school is specialised in working with students with Learning Disabilities so the people who will work with your child are qualified and experienced. They understand the needs of a dyslexic child and know how to meet them. I'm sending you a link to the website, check it out and give it a try

Hi,

You could try Time 4 Learning at this site http://www.time4learning.com/

When my son was having similar problems, I enrolled him here & later when he was professionally assessed, they were impressed by his level of leaning - all thanks to this home schooling site.. Its for after school n summer too..

Good luck!

Try Cedars Tutoring Centre.

They specialise in helping students who do not have enough English to pass entrance exams to international schools.

They also assist students with dyslexia and other specific educational needs.

I have students in Qatar including one that has a dyslexia-type problem when reading. It may be that your child would respond well to private tutorials online (Skype) which are individual and personal. I offer a free trial. My website is: http://www.englishinternaCional.com or you could email me at [email protected]

The problem that you have is that the schools don't want to take a child that will require extra attention to even understand the lessons. This is because the teacher will inevitably spend more time on your child than the other children. parents spend an awful lot of money sending their children to good schools here and they don't want to find that their child is being short changed because the teacher has to spend a disproportionate time on one child due to inherent learning difficulties - ie cannot understand the lessons very well.

Get your child into another school and get extra coaching for your child until he is up to speed in English and then apply again
