All fathers would agree that the daughter in discussion is selfish girl. However that raises two points :1.Western culture was responsible for her change in attitude.2.Engineer1969 had raised point about IIT ,IIM coaching in Qatar. But are there no other avenues apart from MBBS,IIT,IIM for children who wil do their 12th after 5 years?
As In Your story Hemalatha we hope all daughters wont turn out to be like this girl, yes we know as the girls grow as they need both dad and mom and usually every father also wants to see his kids grow up before his eyes but probably some times yes we need to take decisions.I can tell again in my case my father in law had left for Saudi when my wife was studying 4th and came back after she completed graduation, he used to come every year for 45 days and some times they used to also go there when they had vacations, but i see that my wife as well as her sister and only brother are more leaning towards their mother than father.when i asked my wife she tells me as they didnt see him much they tend to be with their mother who was with them always but she admits that as their father did so much sacrifice for them they are in such position today , still she says they cannot change their attitude some how.so when i see my future my wife who is so supportive till today in my life particularly in my professional life says we need to be thinking twice as we dont how my daughter might react.
Father sacrificed his entire life for the sake of children, yes LOVE towards kids is very important, but the daughter must also realise that father sacrificed for her sake, may be he was not in a position to support being in India, God has given an opportunity to earn being in Gulf,
Daughter is selfish, she had mothers love, fathers money , now she has left father, very sad,if father had not sacrificed to day she would not have been in US
Hemlata, the girl in your story is quite a lesson for us, fathers of young kids. Although I am not convinced with the 'daughters' approach post completion IIT, this could happen to anyone. I have yet to know a father who would not like to see his daughter every morning and evening. He not only sacrificed this but also the company of his wife to meet all the financial needs for her daughter's success in life. Else it could have been 90% of togetherness and 10% of success.
Another very important aspect - children who prepares for such exams, need constant parents care. They need to get up with children, take care of their smallest needs and give emotional support. Mere financing for the best coaching class will not help. Both father and mother has to sacrifice. I aware of a case of NRI, who kept his wife and daughter in India for IIT. With mother hard work & dedication, the girl got IIT seat and after passing, moved to US. She has taken her mother along but never cared for the father. In one of blog she wrote - I wanted 10% money and 90% of father love but my father gave 90% money and 10% love. Now I earn much more than my father. Now I give him 90% of my money & 10% love. The father himself has lot of money earned as NRI but he is all alone.Children fly away. Be with children as long as they are with you.
Yes I totally agree with Hemalatha as what she says is correct, we are telling this as we also a daughter who is in class 6th only in BPS and we are planning from now. when we found that kids need to have first of all 4 yrs continous studay in India to get into locals bracket. which means our kids need to go to study in india from class 8th then they stand a good chance to get into Professional courses as there competition among kids in the school is very high compared to what we see here.
We also checked the class books for 6th in india they are also going through the same books only thing is competition is higher there as here our kids are rated by grades if they are getting A+ we are happy but they need to score almost in the bracket of only 96-100% only this is upto to us parents to guide our kids for their better future.
In India we have very good institutes to coaching.

why blame it on the western culture? Isnt dowry and the related issues that is the root cause of all this?
Best bugger of back to India then.....no western culture there.....oohh apart from Bollywood I spose!!

To enter IIT / AIIMS, one needs rigrous coaching right from class X and I dont think such facilities are available in Qatar.
