Help at home is available privately. There is a midwife on this site that goes under the name of Nata she is a fellow australian and she does home visits after you leave hospital to help you baby care, feeding and just overall parenting advice.

I guess people have different experiences.

I can only comment on mine and it was pretty good. except maybe for the after care but I don't think it exists in any hospital. You are send home with a newborn and no help or advice...Very different from Europe especially if you don't have any family here but I guess you managed after all being a parent is a lot about instinct!

Congratulations!

In the health centers, they have health educators who do antenatal classes. you can PM me if you need more info about them..

I've heard that Al Ahli hospital is good, but I wasn't satisfied.

I got married a year a go and I've decided to look for a good doctor for

general checkups especially when I get pregnant. And I am trying to conceive

(if anyone has tips about this, I will be thankful)

I've started with the Ahli

Hospital and every time I

go for my appointment with one of the doctors I got transferred to a different

one.

I was not satisfied with any of the doctors. I’ve decided to go to Doha

Clinic and see Dr. Maha.

She is good, but the amount of patients she sees everyday doesn’t help her

to give each patient her full attention.

I had problems with my uterus and Dr. Maha described me a medicine for 2

weeks and next time I went to her for general checkup and asked her if she needs

to check about the problem again, she said no need because for sure the problem

is solved, but my husband & I insisted; she checked and turned out that I

still have the problem.

but she is the kind of doctor that follows up with the pregnant woman from the beginning to the end.

and if your requested, she will deliver your baby.

and she always has round checkups on her patients that just gave birth on a daily basis.

Bottom line I am still looking for a good doctor.

It all depends what type of room you required.

Single/VIP or Royal. Single room are great.

I would recommend that you get the price list from the hospital itself as prices go up quite regularly it seems.

I can give you the price for single room from back in January:

Normal delivery + 2 days - 7400

Normal delivery + 2 days + vakkum/forceps = 7900

CS + 4 days = 13800

You should alwasy except to pay more though. My baby had jaundice and we ended up paying 20000.

Hope this helps!

You can check out their website at www.aspire.qa

There are next to the Villagio (mall). It's quite cheap I think...

If you join the antenatal classes at Al Ahli hospital the midwives might even organised some swimming classes. I did some towards the end of my pregnancy and it was fantastic (nice to feel a bit lighter!!) highly recommended...

There's a prenatal excercise thingy in Aspire you might wanna check it out. They say swimming is also good in the late months of pregnancy.

Hi Bumblebee,

It proved to be difficult to keep the same doctor during the whole time (bearing in mind that I only arrive in Qatar back in November) but to be honest it did not really matter as all the doctors I did see were really good.  As for the delivery I had a planned ceasarian (my baby was a in a breech position) so Doctor Rizvik did the operation and everything went well.

I think you can't really require to have the same doctor at birth as he might not be there when you deliver but I would not worry too much about it as everyone seemed to be highly qualified...

By bumblebee• 2 Apr 2008 22:26
bumblebee

cool.. mimi37, I just want to know that do you consult the same doctor from the beginning till the end or different doctor in your each visit? And does the same doctor deliver your baby?

Thanks in advance!

Can you really recommend her?

Hi,

I read your recommendation about Dr Amal Badi, I need to see a good gynaecologist and would really prefer a European/Western doctor. But would you say this Dr. Amal is totally up to the standard we are used to in the West. Untill now I've had so pretty bad experiences in Doha.

no I'd rather a midwife, I'm a trained midwife and I can guarantee that midwives know as much as the doctors and plus they are experienced (more so than doctors) in antenatal and post natal care in particular...spose it depends on where the 'midwife' trained as there is a difference from obstetric nurses and midwives..

I have to agree on Dr. Samira as well...she seems to be overshadowed by Dr. Rizvi there but I found her to be a wonderful Doctor.

Good choice weißeOrchidee

*Be aware though, at Al Ahli the person who ends up delivering your baby probably will not be your doctor.

Hey, I had done some homework. Here are the update:

Dr. Rizvi is now one of the director in Al Ahli. As to Dr Stefan and Dr Samira, both of them are the consultant in Al Ahli. So they should be better than other doctors there as they refer to as specialist.

Dr Amal Badi has a private clinic in the tall building opp. Toys are us (I think it's the Kemco building, formally Gemco!!!), I've been seeing her for years as have lots of my friends. Really nice and down to earth and she also does ultrasound herself on the premises. I would highly recommend her. Tel. 4324349. Her english is perfect and I believe she will attend births at private hospitals but as I had all my kids in UK I can't confirm this, but she saw me before, during and after all my births.

Hey dear, congrats once again. I know about Al Ahli, its a good and huge hospitial with all world class instruments. They are famous for their hospitality & the care given to the patients by the staffs (except some at various labs there), the charges at the hospital is high when compared to other private clinics, but if you have insurance coverage its good.

Anyways, you will get more than what you expect from this hospital, Dr. Najla & Rizivi are also famous there.

Best of lucks, take care of you health....
