how safe is doha?

By RachitVyas

hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I feel the warmth of qatari culture already before moving.
I seek your kind assistance for the last but most important question.
How safe is doha as a place to live with family?
What are a few things to beware of?
How good is the law and order system? Is it unsaid but partial to locals?

Sterotyping of cultures is a common and big mistake but also some things which we hear can't be left but clarified

My apologies in advance if it seems queer to some members for asking this.my only intention is the safety of my family.

Thanks once again for this

Best,

HELLO GUYS!

first i'll apologize about my poor English..But i still want to share something with you people.

There is no justice here in QATAR!

if you are not Qatari.. You are a Stranger ..then you do anything you would never be able to get your Rights..

Exactly what i want to say is..

I am a Indian Guy,I have a sweet friend Once we went out and come back very late.. about 1:00AM she Droped me back home and left for her house..She was Driving alone..

she was at RAMADA signals .. there was any Qatari GUY in a Mercedes Sports car.. He saw her and started annoying her.. very badly they Tried to push her car towords the foothpath ..she could hit her car to the polls..she could be die..

they follows her til her House.. She was't not scared she was screwed up and finally she shown him a MIDDLE FINGER.. that Qatari Guy Became More MAD..

She called 999 after long long Bells they answered and then she called her DAD out.. Police came

Then that Qatari GUY SAID TO THAT GIRL YOU KNOW WHO AM I..I BELONGS TO ALTANI FAMILY.. NOW I AM GOING TO DEPOT YOU WITH IN 2 or 3 HOURS !! NOW MY EYES ARE ON YOU WHAT EVER YOU DO WHERE EVER YOU GO..

HE WAS SMOKING IN FRONT OF THE POLICE AND SPOKED TO THAT GIRL LIKE THAT.. JUST PACK YOU THINKS NOW I AM GONNA KICK YOU OFF THIS COUNTRY..

and She was't ever scared because she was't wrong..

She said i am proud i did this..

You know some of these Qatar's are so Proudy..

after that i'am hating this country..i am living here because my Dad and Mom is here..If you are stranger.. There is no Justice for you.. they will Treat you like dogs you know..

Generally, very safe, esp for your wife and kids. And except for isolated incidents like whatsisname with his eye business... and the public displays of affection with your wife, I suppose. With your kids, doesn't seem to be a problem.

Safety also depends on where you'll be staying. In areas where there are very few women, your family should be alert about their surroundings. I know because I live in an area that's not so safe and there have been a few isolated incidents, not happening to me but to other people - I learn to avoid trouble by listening and observing. When I tell this to my new friends, they don't believe me, esp the guys. At times, they fail to see further. The girls understand better.

Anyway, I'm within yelling distance from someone from my company - we all live in the same blocks of apartments. And, like I said somewhere before, I have certain emergency numbers on speed dial. So it's a matter of where you'll be and your emergency plan thought out.

When you are with your family, absolutely no problem. I believe no one (stalkers, etc) will disturb them.

How good is the law and order system - partial to locals and a few other countries. But then again, the logic of that is the citizens of those countries are fewer and more sought after whereas the citizens of some countries are so many and also many are not professionally qualified. It stands to reason that a "general rule" is followed but as with all general rules, there are exceptions,on a case by case basis. I,for one, notwithstanding some (or even many problems highlighted about discrimination, etc), believe that they are doing the right thing in the way they run things here.

Of course, things could be better and more efficient but it takes trials and errors to learn and improve. Our part is to continue to highlight things we see as needing change. The govt will take note and will do something about it eventually. It's just not that easy to crank up and move a massive organisation.

Sterotyping of cultures is a common and necessary for an understanding of how things work generally and plan ahead but to stick on rigidly to that stereotyping without being aware of possible biasness is the big mistake. The general information is what one gleans from other sources. At the end of the day, one decides what to do in one's own peculiar situation. Simple, really.

No apologies needed. And your communication skills are very good, unlike some others here. It is clear that your intention is for the safety of my family.

Dear Mr. Vyas,

The only concern in this part of world is adaptability (climatic, cultural and ethical) and high cost of living. Forget about safety of your family; you are in the safe hands vis-a-vis to India (Mumbai or any other metropolis).

You are welcome to Qatar and enjoy a peaceful, prosperous and healthy life-style. All the best

It is soo pleasure to say Qatar is very safe to live. I was working in saudi arabia about 5 years. I have seen so many robbories in front of me. And it was a very difficult place to live. Even people cannot travel in a public taxi. The taxi driver himself steal our money.

And also walking besides the road are very dangerous, black peoples (Nigerians and some black saudis) will attack us any time. Cannot make a phone calls while walking, they will come with scooter.

But here in qatar, i felt like a heaven.. even i am not bothered about locking my room.

Good place to live.. i love it

Hey. In terms of family safety, Qatar is very safe. Of course u need to take the usual common sense of plain and simple keeping an eye on your children. But I've lived in several countries in addition to having spent a large chunk of my childhood here in Qatar. I've never felt safer anywhere else than I have ever done in Qatar - as with many other places in the Middle East, people are very good with children often looking after them if the kiddos parents aren't around, so that shouldn';t be a problem at all.

safest place you can think of...maybe the first day you can try it out by going for a midnight stroll alone...:)

just respect the rules of the land and the local customs, especially those concerning morality and religion..i think that i need not mention this to you as you are coming as a family.. so no probs..safejourney...

Don't compare this place with India or Bombay! India's crime rate is among the topmost on the planet whereas Qatar is as cool n quiet as a kitten. You'll live here in the company of cats rather than dogs barking in the night. You'll wander here on the streets anytime you want without being eve-teased. Welcome to Doha...lol
