How is it in your school?

Hi to all parents,
I would like to ask you about school programme in your kid's school. Do your kids have books for math, literacy, do you know what system school follows? I just found out that in our school teachers searching the global net, picking a bit of info and worksheets from different sits, and then "create" their papers which they give out to children... I am a bit surprised (to say the least) that school which "follows British curriculum" collecting info online instead of having proper books at hand. I also figured out that there is no consistency in teaching - they jump from one thing to another. Is it normal for all schools here, or we are the "lucky onces"?

Ok, thanx for your answers. May be you can help me with an advise - what shall i do? I had a meeting with a head-master, and she was the one saying that they dont have books but they do follow brit. cul. There are many other things i do not like about that school but we are trapped - you know the situation with schools here. No books. During ECA time kids just watching TV... The admin office is rude to people... Way of teaching is really strange. Books are changed only once a week - teacher say she got no time to change them often, coz she has many kids in the class and has no help. And it costs a lot!

To whom can i complain about school? Does anybody check how schools operate?

Looks like Its become good business here...

In fact shalla I really feel that the barrier to open a school is quite low here... else there wont be so many complaints...

If it says "British Curriculum" then the books have to bear the name of the institute/press printing them in UK... If not then its obvious the school just using the "name" to con people into believing that school in Qatar is affiliated to the one in UK.

The teachers can use the net to download material that will enhance the basic curriculum.

My children are 7 and their backpacks weigh over 20 lbs pounds each....big bulky text and practice books for Math, Social Studies, Science and English. My back will give out before the end of the school year.

And if you think it was easy to open a school you are mistaken. You need at least one influential Qatari so you don't have to appear in court when a fire in your school has killed a few people.

You said you wanted to open a school. With that English? Otherwise, talk and write as you like.
