Here's what i know from my country:

When you connect to the internet without actually being connected by authorized workers, and you tap to some cable you found, there are some things that MIGHT happen:

1. You will most certainly NOT receive any kind of support from Qtel

2. You will have some legal issues EVEN IF you pay for your services.

3. Slim chances: nothing will happen and you will enjoy your connection... but as i said... slim chances...

He should look for the nearest QTel Manhole rather than the Qtel pipe. When the QTel box is there in your villa, the pipe leading to the Manhole must also be there. Ideally the cable should also be there but either the Villa contractor forgot to pull the cable or just ignored and got away with it.

Your connection should not be tapped from an existing cable but come as a dedicated branch from the Manhole. Although tapping will work but that is not the right practice.

This what happens when experienced Qtel staffs are replaced by low paid outsourced contract staff.

LOL...

QTEL has the same delima as other companies..

Low Wage worker who may or may not know what they are doing...

QTEL workers are known to tap on to existing wires to provide DSL to customers..

I watch a guy do this, he just didn't know any better..that is how he was taught..

After 3 more visits, it was corrected..

Test everything you can think of before you sign any paper for the QTEL guy, once signed you are releasing them..

I think the guy came to you is not working for QTel. Qtel guys will have their maps in which the exact location of the cable line will be marked.

It's NOT your business to dig up the ground to find Q-Tel cables. This is the most ridiculous thing I ever came across in Qatar. Ha, ha, ha.

Wait a second... Qtel Guy does not know where the pipes are? What the hell kind of training does Qtel give to it's employees?

Just contact Qtel... tell them they need to send someone with a little more training and knowledge about Qtel Operations...
