Seat belt law violators fined
Staff Reporter
ALMOST all drivers and front-seat passengers have started wearing seat belts since it became mandatory on February 1, a senior traffic department official said yesterday.
More than 90% of the people are fastening the safety harness and the others are being booked whenever caught, said Lt Col Mohamed A al-Mana, head of planning, security and radars.
Over the last four days, tickets have been issued to a “few” motorists for not fastening the belt. An exact number was not available but Lt Col al-Mana said, “it is not many”.
Those who violate the rules are punishable by a fine of QR100 under the seat belts law. Repeat offenders could be booked under other clauses under which fines could be as high as QR500, the official warned.
