Hammad Children Hospital - Al-Saad

This evening we took our 3 year old child for some emergency treatment at HMC Children Hospital near Al-Saad Signal. Story is long, but I will share just a bit of it to ask you for help – if any.

I would like someone to please explain why we were refused a copy of Blood and Urine Reports? Today we were told that there is absolutely no possibility for sharing such information. This is HMC management policy! Why?

I am not worried about the Urine test. I can get it done outside once again at a private clinic. I will spend some more money but this is OK and I am used to it.

However I can not justify taking another blood sample from a 3 year sick kid just because some guy at HMC top would not want a child’s parent to have a copy of the report. What are they worried about? Is this an ISO or DNV or some other international standard to refuse and conceal critical information from Parents?!?

I want to raise it further. However, can someone suggest how should move further from here? Newspaper? Authorities? UNICEF? WHO?

Any help would be highly appreciated. I need these reports to get one additional opinion outside Qatar.

It may be HMC policy for staff not to print out reports directly from the computer and handing them to patients..that is understandable. But they could have informed you that you can request a "copy of file" at the Medical Records Department at HMC where you may have to provide them your Qatar ID card, fill up an application and pay QR50. In fact you can get the copy right away as long as your child's file is in the Medical Records, otherwise you may have to wait for a few days.

The Director at HMC Medical Records is Richard Browne.

That is HMC management policy not to give any medical investigations reports to anyone unless officially requested. The only document you can get right away is the sick leave certificate, if you are an employee and is entitled to have rest based on the severity of your illness.

To obtain a Medical Reports, you need to go to HMC main bldng., there is a counter like reception beside the QNB-ATM machine. Simply talk to the Qatari(Female) receptionist at the counter and tell them that you need an application form to request for Medical Reports.

Pay Qr50/ to the cashier(same place)and filled up the form, dont forget to signed the consent column, and submit it to the Medical Records for processing. They will usually tell you to come back after 2 weeks to collect the complete medical reports of your child because they need to seek approval from your child's physician. Good luck!:)

Seems that, they want everything done legally for their records to which should be, in my opinion.

Good luck!:)

Have the doctor you are sending the blood report to contact the hospital and have them request it- I believe they have to comply with the regular doctor. Withholding medical information is against the medical oath!! They could have their license revoked.

They clearly stated that its HMC Hospital Management policy to not provide any copy to anyone. I am the parent. If this is not US, this is neither 15th century. As I stated in my opening post that I need to send it outside Qatar - actually to US.

If you have some approach please let me know.

I believe I am not asking for an Exit Permit or Police Clearance. It is my child's blood report. I am trying to avoid doing another sampling for the same purpose.

Well, I know it is not an international policy- as you can get those results in the USA.

Try asking the Hospital to send the results to your regular doctor- they should not have any problem doing that. Maybe they were just hesitant to give it to a non medical personal.

Have you regular doctor give them a call and request the info- they should have to give it!!
