My family will be moving to Qatar from Canada soon. I'm Just wondering what are the ranges of food/grocery budget there for a month for a family of 5(me, wife and 3 kids)?
Wegmans is known for its history of charitable donations and community outreach programs. According to its website, Wegmans donates over 14.5 million pounds of food to local food banks and soup kitchens every year. Shoppers have noticed the generous tendencies of Wegmans, making it another reason they love the store.
Currently in the process of moving, should be there in the next 1-2 months, waiting on our visas. We are a family of 3 (2 adults and a 1 yr old baby). We're moving from Toronto (downtown). Any words of wisdom from people that have already landed? I have budgeted a groceries to be around 3,500 a month. Don't drink so am hoping that will help with the final spend.
We will be shipping a container load of stuff which I need to fill with things I will not find there (50% empty). Based on what you see, is there anything I should stock up on?

Interesting, I moved from canada last week, so far so good, ibelive groceries are little cheap here compare to canada I moved from Vancouver, I have four kids and I think 3,000 will be a good amount I also include in that eating out. It also depends on your choices. However we greatly miss Tim hortons:(((( and the beauty of canada and for sure friends. As for school I opted for home schooling
I too am coming with my family and I've gotten the following information from Americans in relation to grocery for a Family of 4. QR4000 - QR6000. I believe its because of the mix of grocery stores and brands you choose to purchase. I here now visiting for a week and have also noticed for a nice meal for you and your wife in the hotel with drinks will cost about QR350 - QR750. Depending on how many drinks you have. We had a few before Ramadan started so we were on the higher end. Based on those experiences, I've additionally budgeted QR2000 for eating out.
Just like everyone has stated, it depends on your lifestyle but i'd assume you'd want to make it comparable to what life is like in Canada. At lease I do.

our embassy and foreign office has already done all attestation and stamps.
Infact they understand the situation and cooperate so well .They even make an exception and did that on urgent bases because they understand how important a child's education is.
And wasting even a day in a child's education is not acceptable. That's is the difference between civilized educated and head strong nation.
Qatar definitely need to born again to achieve even a pinch of all this .

Still struggling with school admission thou we came early and switched our kids session there in Milton Ontario, in March .
However The Council Of Seriously No brainers ...is not considering them evaluated we have attested report cards of past three years ,recommendation letters ,and transfer letter from school in Ontario.
My son has passed the most difficult test of school in Doha the cheoufit. Debakey high school .Qatar academy and Qatar international . and all of them accepted him in grade 7 . but eval.depart of SEC is not granting him the certificate,

Any Walmart, Superstore, Safeway or Loblaws Grocery store around there?LOL.

You comment about sales tax made me laugh.... yes no HST... imagine, paying the price you see on the tag (be it more expensive) but it will be hard to adapt to.

I am confident that you can easily manage a month's grocery within QR 2000 for your family of 5 if you are not extravagant. One can find equally good grocery items in Qatar as in western countries.

So beware for this country doesn't deserve us .
Hopefully will meet some day. No walmart or canadian tire will be hard to live without them :)
We are still planning how to go about the move. Excited and a bit worried at the same time. Atleast they have a couple of tim's there now. :)
