Good Tutor in Calculus for my Son at ASD

Richard G. Wilkins
By Richard G. Wilkins

I am looking for a good tutor in calculus for my son, Rex Wilkins. He is a fine young man -- and works hard, but is having difficulty with calculus. Personally, I can hardly add or subtract (let alone do calculus)!

If anyone knows of a good tutor, please contact me at [email protected] or on my cell phone at +974 512-9223.

I am prepared to pay well for a good tutor! If possible, tutoring would be done on Saturday mornings and one other evening during the week -- at the convenience of the tutor. Thanks!

Try Geometric. They have qualified teachers from the UK with both teaching and maths degrees.

Dear Mr. Wilkins,

Are you still seeking a tutor? I used to tutor in Canada for high school and university students. I tutor maths and chemistry and sometimes physics.

If still require a tutor let me know.

Thank you,

Kal

Physical definition of calculus

Steps To find the area of an irregular lamina.

1. Trace the shape in a piece of paper.

2. Cut it with a pair of scissors.

3. Make 100 copies of the same by using photocopy.

4. Use glue to stick them.

5. Note the height(h).

6. Use lacquer or touchwood syntheic varnish to make it waterproof.

7. Now you have a 3-D object, having extruded the lamina.

8. Now fill a small tub with water upto the brim.

9. Immerse the object in the tub.

10. Collect the displaced water.

11. Calculate the volume(v) with a measuring cylinder or from the wt. of water displaced.

12. Now to get the area A divide the volume(v) by the height(h).

A= v/h.

This is how a stupid person will find the area of a lamina.

Another option is to use a planimeter. But this one too is stupid.

Another way is to draw the figure in any CAD and use the Area command. This is much easier.

So the moral of the story:

Only stupid people should learn calculus.

Calculus? Isn't that the subject where they teach you how to use a calculator?

"Calculus is a branch of mathematics that includes the study of limits, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series, and constitutes a major part of modern university education. Historically, it has been referred to as "the calculus of infinitesimals", or "infinitesimal calculus". Most basically, calculus is the study of change, in the same way that geometry is the study of space.

Calculus has widespread applications in science and engineering and is used to solve problems for which algebra alone is insufficient.

Calculus builds on algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry and includes two major branches, differential calculus and integral calculus, that are related by the fundamental theorem of calculus. In more advanced mathematics, calculus is usually called analysis and is defined as the study of functions"

With all the support and consellor they have at ASD and the not to mention the fee they are charging.. This poor little kid of Mr Wilkins should be offered extra support thats what they used to do with us back home in the UK.

Like I said just a personal opinion.. ASD probably has the best facilities in Qatar as school, but does not mean it will turn out boffins..Also surprised that they do have quite a strict and choosy entrance policy..

Enough Said..Yanks either you love them or you hate them.. For me its nether..

Oh please, UkEngQatar! Lots of people have trouble with math (we're not all engineers, ya know). Doesn't mean ASD doesn't teach it well.

I am surprised that kids at ASD are having problem with Calculus. I believe that it is the way they teach in ASD or in American system. I know that the Brtish System is slightly better. Just a personal opinion.

I hope you get a good tutor for your son. Mr Wilkins.
