Sony Ericsson fined Rs 34,500 for defective mobile

Times of India News Jul 21, 2012, 04.09PM IST

Sony Ericsson fined in India|

A panel of the Central District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered Sony Ericsson to pay Rs 34,500 to a customer for selling a defective handset.A panel of the Central District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered Sony Ericsson to pay Rs 34,500 to a customer. Along with the total cost of the defective phone (Rs 24,500), the bench directed the company to pay the Delhi-based complainant Rs 7,000 as compensation for harassment and Rs 3,000 as legal costs. The panel also ordered the retailer who sold the defective handset to the consumer not to store "hazardous good" in the future.

The customer, Neeraj Arora, had filed a complaint in the consumer court, saying that the Sony Ericsson phone (model U1i) he purchased in July 2010 did not perform well since the beginning and used to 'hang-up'. When he submitted the device for repairs, its ringer ceased to work abruptly. The retailer, which also operated as an authorised service centre for Sony Ericsson, was unable to fix the defects in the handset, said Arora.

The bench, headed by B B Chaudhary, ruled, "We hold that the complainant (Arora) who had purchased the mobile handset of Sony Ericsson, a brand name in the market, from opposite party 2 (retail shop) has established that the opposite parties 1 and 2 (Sony Ericsson and the retail shop) are guilty of selling the defective goods. A consumer cannot be asked to remain at the mercy of service provider in the era of consumers-friendly environment."

The forum gave its decision against the manufacturer and the retailer since neither of them appeared in spite of being subpoenaed. It said that they failed to resolve the customer's concerns, even though it was their duty.

Jokes apart.

It is embarrassing though.

Just have faith & courage, wait some more time to determine that nothing comes out of this untimely , unintended occurence.

I don't know, if you pursue this case with the manfacturer, they may ask the evidence of the circumstances when 'that' happened which should not have happened.

Responsibility should be fixed to someone, when a product is used as per the instructions & it fails !!

Under the belief system in Qatar life beings the moment an egg is fertilised. So under Islam that is considered murder. Only god can decide life and death and kill humans.

@ Molten

"We" are husband & wife, so its nothing illegitimate

the cause of the accident was that the condom gave way/ broke. idont think there is a point contacting the manufacturer because if you read the fine print on the packaging they say there is a 2% failure rate

@ Moza

why would it be considered abortion? we are just not planning a kid yet! prevention is better than cure. there is no guarantee that anthing has even happened yet and in 1-2 days its not even considered a vaild life. thats the scientific opinion but the islamic opinion could be different ofcourse

I have noticed the brief mention of that Cuban Sho.. now & then.

But , let me say, Usually we name another person when something unplanned happens.

Another angle : Accidents don't happen , they are caused.

It is not proved yet that the damage is done or not.

& Causes of the 'accident' should be investigated to avoid future losses.

Is it wise to "prescribe" these pills. What of the possible side affects or dangers :O(

There are no dedicated progesterone-only morning after pills available in Qatar, but there a number of birth control pills that can be used for emergency contraception:

Eugynon, Neogynon, Nordiol, or Ovral: take 2 pills as soon as possible after the accident, and two more pills 12 hours later, or;

Microgynon-30 or Nordette: take 4 pills as soon as possible after the accident, and four more pills 12 hours later.

When using combined oral contraceptives for emergency contraception, nausea and vomiting are more likely. You might consider taking a motion sickness medication 30 minutes before each dose to reduce the risk of vomiting.

I don't think they are sold as it would be considered abortion and that's illegal.

I doubt whether you will find the "Morning After" pill in Qatar.

Let's hope that the tests are negative.
