Don’t Stay Calm! Beware of Pests!
You wake up in the middle of the night, feeling unusually thirsty. Half asleep, you trudge to the kitchen, rubbing your eyes and wondering if you were dreaming.
You turn on the lights, and there, right before your eyes, like criminals fleeing a police siren. Cockroaches! Two or three of them, scurrying to the corners of the kitchen, back to their hiding places!
Has this turned from a dream to a nightmare?
Sadly, this is reality. Pests are a common and realistic part of life. They are relentless and single-minded. Which means you need to be too! There is no room for pity!
But is it such a big deal, you ask. So what if there is a cockroach or two in the kitchen. They don’t bother me.
Well, let’s think about that. Pests are nocturnal, which means cockroaches and lizards and bed bugs do not come out to play in the morning, when you are up and about. No. They wait till the clock strikes 12, and there is dead silence in the house. That’s when they crawl out of their hiding places.
What hiding places? Oh, I don’t know, have you looked around your house or apartment? Beneath the sink tap? In the far corners of the toilet? Behind the dusty shelves? Are there any holes in the walls or flooring?
Ignorance is bliss, but not when you are thirsty or hungry and wake up in the middle of the night. Oh, and that midnight snack you were about to have? Are you sure you want to eat that?
Before you grab a spoon, think about this. A cockroach is a very resilient insect. It’s famously capable of surviving a nuclear holocaust. But that’s not the frightening part. Cockroaches in Qatar, like their kind elsewhere in the Gulf, are perfectly capable of reproducing at an alarming rate. Once a group takes a liking to a particular accommodation, they are stubborn tenants.
While you are blissfully sleeping at night, female cockroaches are laying dozens of eggs, ready to welcome new members every week. These eggs will be laid next to food items. And water. Soon, there will be more mouths to feed. They will start dropping fecal matter around the floor. The kitchen will begin to smell of mothballs.
So this is no time to be a pacifist. If you see a cockroach in your house, that means his friends are around as well. So call for pest control. Get powerful chemicals sprayed by a capable professional, from a reputed agency.
Don’t delay!
