Doha Montessori and British school
Hi, i'm due to arrive in Doha at the end of the month with 3 kids. we have their names down for DESS, doha College, DMBS and park house, my husband who is already there has just recieved an email from DMBS saying that they have spaces available in January for our 2 school aged kids.We have to give them an answer by Tuesday, can anyone provide some feedback about the school. we are not sure whether to take the spaces or continue to hold thumbs for DESS or Doha College. A big positive to me is that both kids can start together, but what is it's reputation like etc
Hi, I must say I was very impressed by DMBS. Its siutated in a large villa and the shady garden is reminiscent of a village green. The general feeling of the school is friendly and welcoming. The staff were very nice and given the fact that they can't hide behind any mod-cons you do get a feeing of what you see is what you get and what you get appears to be quality teaching. The school is full of the childrens artwork and at the time of our visit the older children were enjoying a game of rounders. The Head Mistress is ex Doha College and is on a mission to bring DMBS up to being one of the premier schools in Doha.
With regard to school places, I would suggest that you take whatever places you are offered, if they are not from your preferred school then stay on your preferred school's waiting list and move the children if and when places come up. Dont take the risk of holding out for places at your preferred school as you could end up with no places at all.
I have 2 children attending DMBS.The school has a very warm, friendly atmosphere.I find the staff are caring and take a real and guenuine interest in our kids.
What you see is what you get!
Whilst the present premises are small, the school plans to move early in 2008 to new school premises which has every facilitythat a good school could want.
Watch out doha college and DESS.DMBS is on way up!!!
DESS suposed to have a very good reputation in Qatar. The waiting list is usually full and i seem to remember that recently they "closed" it. Of course the fees are pretty horrendous at DESS and I seem to remember reading somewhere on QL that there are also plenty of extras too.
When trying to find school places for your children, do take into account what has euphemistically been called "the school run". Battling with Doha traffic can add a couple of stressful hours to your child's school day. I am sorry if this all sounds rather negative, but forewarned is forearmed.
I know that DESS and Doha College are very good. No idea about Doha Montessori though :(
