Considering moving to Doha, Qatar
My husband has been offered a position in Doha, a good one. We have yet to take the decision. I have the following questions to ask before taking the decision
First issue is my Son is studying in the Canadian System and will be moving to grade 11 coming September, I need to know the education system in Doha and if Canadian system is not available what alternative system would you suggest.
We will be given temporary housing for 3 months within which we will have to find one of our own. I need to know the residential areas that is family oriented, close to shopping areas and not to far from the schools.
How is the job market for Back office Support in sales and administration positions. I have 16 years experience in the IT industry. WOuld you be able to suggest of companies that are hiring or companies that I should be contacting for job prospects.
Appreciate your comments or suggestions
Geostudy, do you have any comments about canadian school, how is it comparing to other english schools in doha?
Thanks
Apply early to the schools. Many are already full for the upcoming year and have waiting lists.
We are having a lot of trouble with our new employees getting their kids in school.
The Canadian School is still accepting registration. hey have a web site www.qcs.edu.qa and a phone number 483 3520. The registrar's name is Carol Gunn.
your work. Traffic is brutal here, so you want to minimize travel time. Find out first where your office is located, then look around there. Most of Doha proper is safe and clean (relatively speaking).
Thank you for your responses. I will surely try the links you all have provided. I am more used to apartment style of living. I am presently in Abu Dhabi and somewhat accustomed to the Middle Eastern setup. I would lively your input on residential areas (name please) where I would find safe and clean appts
Thanks
i don't think so that there is any canadian system schooling specially in grade 11 here.
its a very small city and mostly areas are residential there is nothing industrial here except for oil wells. and where ever you'll find a house you'll b near to markets and all if you know how to drive.
housing is prettty expensive here i m sure if money is not an issue than u'll find a nice house pretty soon but keep in mind a 3 bedroom house will not b less than 25000 qatri riyals around C$ 8000/- so try to get the house allounce from the company or house before you come in here.
can't say much about the job market. currently i m also visiting doha.

Schooling is a great concern here, but try the links listed under Guide to Qatar. Been through there alot myself looking for a school to put my kids in and found info on most schools. Admit though did not see anything canadian, but a few relate to USA schooling. Maybe another QLer knows. Also try search feature for schools.
yes, that's right dweller.
My main concern is the school for my son. I have been following several forums and I am totally confused. Thanks
I assume it's with the QP Group.
Can't help on the other stuff but at least it will put the topic back on the front page
