Childcare and maid

Hi All

We are moving to Doha in August and are negotiating with some outgoing expats regarding a live-out nanny/maid.
This lady is apparently very lovely, reliable and experienced and speaks excellent English.
However, her rate of pay is 3000QR + 600 transport. This is for a 5 day week.
We were fine about paying top dollar but this seems extreme.
We need someone for housework, laundry and ironing each day form about 9 or 9.30am, plus looking after our two boys from 12.40 til we are home at 3.30 or 4pm (add in a coupla nights babysitting per month.)
We've had staff in other countries and truly appreciate the benefits of a super (Filipina)lady like this. But 3600 QR??
Any comments anyone?

seriously getting ripped off!

Going rate (expat paying) is anywhere between 1200QR to 2200QR per month, depending upon timings and duties. This is for a live in or live out that you do not sponsor. When you sponsor a maid, you pay for all the paperwork, health card, tickets and accommodation etc etc, so therefore the net pay is reduced.

Do not be fooled by these scam artists. Whilst I understand that cost of living has increased in qatar, and therefore salaries should accommodate these increases. Just because expat foreigners are known to pay up to twice as much as local employers, they shouldn't be taken advantage of.

Be fair, don't underpay, but certainly do not agree to this ridiculous sum!

I pay my absolutely wonderful Maid Qr1200 pm and depending on performance I give her increments, bonuses and incentives like contributions towards the kids school fees, other educational gifts like a Computer etc. But 3000, someone is trying to rip you off my dear. I got my nanny through an agency.

If they are asking for hourly rates, then it sounds like they are being sneaky. They are trying to get more. Going by hourly rates is a way to hide the monthly rate (unless you divide QR1200 into a per-hourly rate.

The supermarkets are good at this. I guess the housemaids are copy-cats.

Topics on housemaids draw me like a bee to honey!

I thought the going rate for live-out housemaids doing your duties was QR1200. This is what I paid a Filipina housemaid last year.

Some of the local agencies here might help. sorry I dont have have a list with their contact details.

'as long as you stay away from "JASSIM Decoration & Services Co.", they are the worst maid agencies we came across.
