Canadian school
Hello friends,
I am a Canadian, married, 2 kids. Will in all likelihood be moving with family to Doha. Elder child, who is 7, has dual US/CDN citizenship and both passports, while the younger child, who is 3, has CDN passport only. 7 year old is currently in grade 2 (Alberta) and younger child will be starting KG in Sept 2012.
Some questions:
1. Q company offer - will this pay for either US or CDN school for 7 year old and ONLY CDN school for 3 year old when she is ready for KG?
2. When does the "typical" school year in Doha begin/end?
3. If we get to Doha next month (March_ in the middle of our older son's current school year, what are the chances that he can continue his school grade 2 at ASD, or any other US or CDN school? (I guess this goes to the wait times).
4. Can anyone recommend a good US and/or Canadian school without a CRAZY wait list for admission straight away?
thanks!!
You won't get a space in any school at such short notice. You will be lucky to be able to put their names on a waiting list for next schoolyear! And most companies normally pay schoolfees from Primary onwards, not nursery / preschool. Good luck.
Very helpful comments, please keep them coming. To "Translator", I never thought of that (duh). Good idea...
is the best in Qatar
Why not you come, they follow you when the schools end there? I did the same, came in April, family followed in July. This will give you a chance to arrange schools here for next year. It is almost impossible to arrange for schools for next week.
As per Q companies , you childs admission will be paid for based on your passport. Usually most Canadians get ASD and it is better than the Canadian school.
www.asd.edu.qa is the American School Doha - it has an excellent reputation with fees and waiting lists to match -
There is a Canadian School (which follows the Alberta curriculum) but their reputation is so-so and only goes to grade 9. They are affiliated with the College of the North Atlantic Qatar.
Any of the better schools have waiting lists - start contacting them now.
School year will start at the end of Eid (probably around the second week of September depending on the curriculum followed (British, US or Canadian)
