It's also worth thinking of your eventual return to the UK and the cost of quarantine (be it limited or not). Qatar isn't part of the EU and you would have to comply with the new importation rules...... just a thought.

We have taken stray cats back to the UK from Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey over the years and it's now becoming really expensive. Good luck.

Hi Xena,

I'm sure if I ever get to Qatar I with be giving homes to Dogs and Cats, I can never walk away from an Animal that needs a home, they give so much back.

Take care,

Mick

Hi Xena,

Thanks so much for your reply, the previous posts had me worried.

The information you supplied will be very helpful and I had a look at www.gaws.org

I run Protection4Animals www.protection4animals.wordpress.com and Stop Fur Trade both on twitter @P4Animals and @StopFurTrade. I do it voluntary on a part time basis. I am an Animal Lover and all my Dogs and Cats were abused, mistreated, starved, Beaten or Just Dumped.

So I am very much into Animal Welfare and their rights.

Thanks again.

Best Wishes,

Mick

Hi

Thank you for you reply.

Are people cruel to Animals in Qatar?

I love my Dogs and Cats so are you saying Qatar is not a place for Pets?

On a Voluntary basis I stated Protection 4 Animals, @P4Animals on Twitter and Stop Fur Trade also on twitter @StopFurTrade. I run both of these myself with no funding educating and bring to the worlds attention any Animal Cruelty in any Country by letting the rest of the world know through social media.

Regards,

Mick

Hi Green Tech,

Thank you for your reply, I do appreciate it.

Since I left my post I came across the following on Expat Focus that might be useful to some people:

"In order to take a pet into Qatar you must ask your sponsor to obtain an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture on your behalf. Documentation required will include a copy of the animal's health certification and vaccination record.

Most cats are allowed into the country, but some breeds of dog are prohibited."

Mick

easy enough to bring your pet - just vets bills here are astronomical

Well said Xena...

I moved here in September and bought my Chocolate Labrador from the UK. She has adapted very well, but obviously doesn't go out much in the intense heat we have now.

We used a UK company to bring her here and they worked with Doha vets (near Hamed Hospital). There are restrictions on certain breads but I am not sure which ones. Doha vets are really good and I would recommend them.

Our lab has adapted really well and the warmth also seems to have helped with her arthritis. You just have to be sensible and not take them out when the weather is really hot.

I have never had any problems when walking her, however we have been stared at and barked at by locals. I guess it is unusual for them to see someone walking a dog. I have heard of some people having problems in public places (corniche etc.), but we walk ours around the streets with no issues.

Hope this helps.

If you have no idea what you are talking about, please stay off the thread.

Mickav, please view www.qatarpetrelocators.com and find the contact button, it will send a query to the office of Janet Berry, who owns the company that imports and exports pets.

Qatar is not necessarily a pet friendly country, but there are many people here who have brought there animals.

Costs depend on where you are coming from.

hey there, i think you should contact Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS). Google the name, and you will find the most relevant contacts who can assist you in this procedure, oh and they can also advise you the best in matters of pet accomoddation and doha climates..
