David and Jill Gillespie are the ones I am talking about. Reem, if you get in touch with them, you may finally get a work of your choice. Also, Vodafone have declared that they would sponsor anyone for 3 years if someone wants to work voluntarily towards making Qatar more green and conserve the flora and fauna of the country.
The unfortunate ones who can't return to the sea dies! Either they are taken by Sea Gulls or they just can't find their way & die of hunger or other causes. The Arab R/A turtles are a different breed. May be they catch it from somewhere else and smuggle it to the pet markets in Qatar. So it's better not to buy a turtle.
edifis, There is a particular month of the year in which they come in large numbers to the shore to lay eggs. I will try to find out the contact no. of the couple through my colleague who knows them well. Incidently, recently, they have also written a book on the breeding habbits of sea turtles in Qatar. Try to get hold of that book and you will know the time when to look for them. Village locals steal turtle eggs from the nests in the sands..this is what should be stopped as very few baby turtles get to return to the sea.
Some of the globally endangered species of sea turtles are found in the north-eastern coastlines of Qatar on secluded beaches where the females come to shore for egg-laying. As per a Marine Turtle Monitoring program by Qatar University, in 2007, most turtle-nests were found in the beaches of Ras Laffan, Haloul Island and Fuwairit which also included that of the critically endangered hawksbill turtle and the green sea turtle. I have heard there is a brit couple who voluntarily looks after the conservation of sea turtles in Qatar when they come to lay eggs onshore.

I went to Fuwrait to see turtles last year....but I didn't even see one. But I saw some people patrolling the area.
