Signals in Round abouts

I have always found these signals fixed in roundabouts not safe. As one is driving in good pace to cross the R/A and suddenly you have a signal in front........Its hard to adjust the speed while you are in R/A and many times I have seen accidents.......does any body think these signals are worth????

I sometimes think they expect me to have a hovercraft, and if they hoot at me, I will miraculously just start to hover upwards and out of the traffic... do tell me though, how they think thats gonna help them, though...

another issue I have seen over the past week, is when travelling on a road, and then turning into sliproads, the right of way is for the person that is coming off the main road.. but no, the person travelling on the slip road (who should yield to the left) will keep on driving, forcing the car on the main road to basically stop dead on the slip with cars screeching to a halt behind him...

Its happened to me twice in the last week, and its so strange, but it was definately the same car both times that basically forced his way through.... (I figure that he and I seem to travel at the same times, hence we met up twice)

"if you don't like the heat... get out of the kitchen... but stop trying to fan the flames before you leave... it will burn you on the a** as you go through the doorway...." ME

Hi Snowwhite!

Glad to know that your huby “don’t over speed & NO phones while driving without hands free” well, I think traffic lights will ease the traffic, in practice if your to pass a R/A or a cross road you must reduce your speed but unfortunately in gulf countries it’s the other way around. Drivers increase the speed, believe me this happens only with Arabs specially 99% land riser drivers.

No use/ important.... how good at your in driving with these types of reckless navigators.

Drive safe always!

Generally, traffic lights at R/A's is a good idea. The problem is the feature with the yellow light flashing. This is great in theory. As mentioned earlier in this thread, it means you can go if no traffic is coming. The problem is this: You have stopped, you see the yellow light flashing, you start looking for traffic, it takes a while, finally there's an opening and you go for it. As you enter the R/A you have a quick glance at the yellow flashing light, only to discover that it has turned red. Bummer. QR 6000 out the window. It's easily done.

Xena: I'm with you all the way about entering the R/A. I do it when I feel it's safe, NOT when the idiot in the "Land Bruiser" behind me says it's safe. Keep honking, I ain't moving til it's safe. The same thing goes for traffic jams. I have people behind me, tooting the horn and making gestures at me for not moving, while I have 300 meters and 3 lanes of traffic jammed in front of me. Someone please explain to me, where that idiot expects me to go...

Other than that, I don't find the traffic too bad here...

If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough...

I think the Traffic Flow has become considerably smoother after the introduction of Signal Lights at Round Abouts.....Isn't it?

I never saw this concept back home - its either a signal OR roundabout - never both - and before I forget...

to all those a$$ creepers out there, that might be behind me at the roundabout - just for your info - hooting at me to go when I don't have a clear passage, ISN'T going to make me leave my comfort zone until I am sure that its safe to do so... I am the one that will have to pay for the accident, not you - so I will go when I feel its safe.

i do agree that many still dont use the R/A in a proper way. Either some of them dont gv a signal atall or some of them give it too early ...just misleasding

The signals on the r/a's have helped - but people need to know what the lights mean! It's when the amber lights are flashing that some people don't understand you can go IF there are NO cars coming, but no, they just go. Signal or no signal, some drivers don't know how to use a r/a - they take the right lane if going left, and the left lane if going right. Lessons need to be taught on how r/a work! (yes - i get frustrated on the streets here :) )

i have always observed that a person stops before getting starting towards the R/A and then as soon as you start u hv a red signal in front. How is this friendly. My frnd also met with an accident with this kind of signal. It wasnt his mistake. He had to stop coz of red light and someone banged his car behind....

Well shamils i dont drive and my hubby does...For info he is an IIF facilitator who works for safety...so no overspeeding nor attending phone calls

Roundabouts having signal lights is definitely better than those that don't have. I agree with the above posts.

"As one is driving in good pace to cross the R/A" - that's your problem there.

yes, the signals are a bit disturbing to smooth flow.

But nevertheless, signals are better than the policeman on duty stopping vehicles on r/a. That often is like a knee jerk and one has to react quick to make sure the car behind you is not too close and also look at the next lane.

I have felt that if everyone maintains the speed limit for round abouts (its 30 isn't it?) then there is no need for either of the above. Its jerks racing at 60+ on roundabouts that deprives some others their chance.

than when it has none esp in the big R/A... you just have to be alert anywhere you drive to lessen the risk of accidents
