Sewage water on Doha streets...Who cares?

According to the FIFA evaluations of all nine bids published Friday, 19-11-2010, Qatar is deemed a "high" operational risk to host the month-long tournament in 2022. (MSNBC News)

While every one of us willing Qatar to win in the evaluation, It is sometimes surprising to see at middle of many Doha streets with flooding sewage water, overflows out with bad odor for days. There is no doubt that it causes great hardship to the residents around. The worst scenario is that pedestrians including children have to cross and walk all over the sewage water terrified by splashing of slush due to speeding vehicles. Who cares?

presenting the problem without connection to the bid, maybe I could have shared some insight. But the motive as presented have malice, what the use?

And for your info, our place of residence is in what you may consider a neighborhood of rich people who have the biggest houses (I think) and yet there is one corner with the same problem as you mentioned.

And you know what we did, we check the root cause including the problem of flow to the drainage. And guess what, it's not a problem anymore! It just happened that one of the villa here was occupied by our company as accommodation for the engineers. So we did our share of helping to solve the problem.

Flor1212, I haven't really criticized here as you did. As per your golden quote, being responsible resident, i am looking for the solution to such terrific situation. Do you have any constructive initiative to condense those occurrences?

to connect all problems they see now to the 2022 thing! I wish Qatar did not bid at all, and maybe these people will have a better life than criticizing the bid!

The FIFA evaluation for Qatar can be found here: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/bidders/index.html

I think people should read it before posting unqualified assumptions.

Sadly, the status of sewage system is really degraded in many neighborhoods across Doha due to the sudden increase of population. Although, the public work Authority (Ashgal) have signed many contracts to upgrade the drainage system in many areas, work apparently have not started due to difficulty to obtain Road openings which would cause traffic in already congested areas.

I think a permanent solution would be that the government take lands in highly populated areas under Eminent domain to be utilized for utilities instead of the continues road openings on high traffic roads

"This is the first country I have ever been to that has sewage flowing in the streets" Lucky you, bro! Where I come from this is quite normal every now and then. and it is then looked into and fixed. However since SL is not bidding for FIFA its simply an internal issue. In Doha around the Mughalina area where I stay, in the past year the sewage water problem seems to have worsened. Many times my daughter and I have literally fled from by lanes around our home down which we take our evening strolls, due to the terrible stench and heavy flooding of water around! Some nights we cannot go out on our balcony due to the smell and again we stay on the 8th floor!Obviously we are not the only ones suffering and complaining time and again. In fact I'm surprised to see a thread on this issue only now..was expecting it a long time back! Fervently hope the authorities do the needful pronto, bid or no bid, or risk the spreading of serious diseases and other deplorable consequences, Audubillah!
