An ideal answer to the daily congestion!

An ideal answer to the daily congestion!

"I hope I don’t get caught up at the signal today!"

"All that pollution is really troublesome!"

These thoughts are bound to occur in minds of people who have to travel at some point of time.

Here’s the answer key to these statements that would make your daily life less hectic.

Qatar plans to implement an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) that can help reduce carbon emitted in the air through vehicles.

An ITS instills advanced applications and operations that intend to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management.

It also assists various users to be well informed and to make safer, more coordinated and smarter use of transport networks.

With a population of approximately 2 million, rise in emanation of harmful pollutants in Qatar can be sensed.

Along with the reduction of greenhouse gases, the ITS strategy will aid in lessening accidents and in increasing vehicle efficiency and connectivity.

With access to such technology, I believe that my day would go well planned and smooth even before I hit the roads!

What do you think?

ITS system of slower speed limits on roads leading into congested areas will only work if every warning sign is fitted with a speed camera - we all know how much notice is paid to speed limits if there are no cameras around!!

Britexpat - I believe they claim less pollution as although the journey may still take the same time, the car can be travelling at a more economical speed (slower) and does not stop and wait in traffic cues. This also helps hot spots of pollution in congested areas. The main idea is that traffic flow is better and that journey time actually does become less as junctions themselves become more efficient. The Corniche is one area where the green traffic lights do connect on each junction, which keeps the traffic moving.....unless too much traffic is there - again this is what ITS should help regulate

I'm just curious how an ITS will help control pollution

How can the situation improves until the basic infrastructure (more and better planned roadways) is improved, and the proper enforcement of driving laws for all road users take place? Until these two issues are addressed, technology is not going to "fix" traffic or pollution problems.

Can't wait for the metro to be finished, this will really help in decreasing congested roads. I for one support the metro, fast way to travel around a city.

ITS is mainly for traffic control and management as well as providing 'relevant' information to the driver
