Is asbestos being used in Qatar?
Dear All,
Although asbestos is listed as a banned substance by the authorities here in Qatar http://commerce.nic.in/trade/GCC%20NTMS%20final/Qatar.doc I am concerned it is still being used here for construction.
According to the World wide consumption of asbestos it shows that Qatar imported a staggering 1360 tonnes of it in 2005 and a smaller amount in 2007. No figures available yet for 08/09.

Asbestos is a deadly cancer causing mineral if inhaled and is banned throughout the developed world.
With all the construction work going on across Qatar right now, I am concerned we may be breathing deadly cancer causing asbestos dust.
Could someone please confirm if it's being used, for what purposes, and where?
The data is only available up to 2007 (page 2 on the 2nd hyperlink), of which it imported 27 tonnes. Perhaps you are right and now is a different story, just wanting to solicit views from people working inside the construction or fireproofing industries in Qatar to confirm or deny.
Thanks for your views.
you are talking about the past. Did they import any recently?
That's what I thought too but they imported 1360 tonnes of it in 2005.
It's imports is banned.
