Accident Prone

I really don't think drivers here care about their lives. The kind of accidents that keep happening inspite of the various safety measures like radars are shocking. The moment they touch a free road, the drivers accelerate, putting so many lives at risk.

what can you suggest to reduce these number of accidents?

I HAVE SOME FEW:
Limit the number of licenses issued as there are already too many cars on the road. Award good drivers by reducing their registration fees on renewal.

Imposed substantial find on the driver who causes the accident. Issue fines to errant driverss by monitoring them from control rooms.

Increase patrols wherever possible. Appoint volunteers from the public to take pictures of errant drivers and issue fines on such proof. Crack down mobile usage, minors in the front seat, driving without buckling up and so on.

hope one day, Qatar is a safe place to drive to...

Need for much discipline...

What most scary for me.. are TRUCKS esp. Transformers like Bumblebee,Optimus Prime, Megatron (8, 10 12 wheeler truck):)

Is there any TRUCK BAN here atleast on day time or rush hour?

NO ROOM LECTURE for license applicant. All are practical test. Even sign test is very limited. Driving is not just operating the machine itself but a whole lot of responsibility. And lecturing this responsibility is what is lacking here! Specially for new drivers!

do you know how it feels when you are in front of the wheel? Your observation is a reality to whoever drivers. What is needed is responsible driving habits. One maybe fast if he knows he is fast and he has full control of his vehicle!

There is always room for TOLERANCE for Westerns as we all know that mostly policemen are very much weak in English so whenever they have to face English People they just try to let them go fearing that how they will going to explain themselves as they can do the same fluently to any Arabic guy or harshly to Asians

Last week i did my first driving test... my test consisted of me parking up a ramp, parking inbetween some poles, then a 30 second road test where i was asked to turn left once then park the car and get out. PASS!!

Thats the joke, for a girl who has neer driven in her life to get a license after 2 weeks that easliy.. Hmmm... kinda weird i think.... even though i have my license i still dont think im good enough to drive so i dont drive alone...

i think its waaaaaay too easy to get a license here.

Unfortunately I believe it's nearly impossible to police poor attitudes. I think the only way to positively reduce the number of road accidents etc. would be to change the prevailing attitudes which are a blight of inflated self-importance.

Majority of drivers seem unconcerned with anything other than themselves. Combine that with an unparalleled sense of impatience and lack of consideration ...

It's as if road rage, intolerance and egotism have been passed down from ignorant father to ignorant son.

is due to there being no accountability or consequences for traffic violations beside the cameras. There is NO risk of ever being pulled over for speed, unsafe lane changes, reckless driving, endangering children by having them be unrestrained in cars, etc, etc. Until the authorities GET REAL and get serious about actually doing SOMETHING about the atrocious driving habits here, there is no hope of it ever getting better in my opinion. It has to start at the top.

Well, when you have countless wealth & Job security for Qataris, such incidents will happen not only in Qatar also in other countries too.

Well, if we stick to Qatar for the last 20 years or so I have seen numerous accidents resulted by Qatari youth or Pickup/truck drivers.

Qatari youth has all sorts of facilities in Qatar and this has made them very much ignorant hence not caring for their and others lives too.

'Masti' of both Youth & Money does make them MONKEYS ON THE ROAD as they really drive their LDs or any 4WD like them.

I will agree with VIVO BONITO for his suggestions preferably providing the Cars Registration Number of driver driving recklessly or using MOBILE phones while driving. Huge fines will also discourage such persons only and only if they are not waived by Higher Authorities on basis of contacts, High profile status etc

This was discussed a while ago in great depth. It is wrong to say people don't value their lives, it's just that many people do not believe in the relationship between actions and death. Lots of people believe that God decides when you die and how you behave when you are alive only affects what happens to you AFTER you die and are judged. I really do not want to turn this into a religious thread but this is one of the reasons.
