WM OS or Symbian OS on a smartphone?

Hey guys, I am doing a research which is better?

If you are using a smartphone, what is its OS? And how is it? Does it crash often? How about Symbian OS? They say it's more stable, can anyone attest to that?

Need your 2 cents. Thanks!

Hello, janeyjaney!

I have 2 mobile phones (Sony Ericsson K700i and a cheap Nokia phone - forgot the model)...

Plus 3 smartphones using the ff. OSes:

Palm OS 5.4.9 Garnet (Palm Treo 680) - HotSync with PC

Symbian OS 9.2 S60 v3.1 (Nokia E71) - iSync with Mac

Symbian OS 9.1 S60 3rd edition (Nokia E61) - iSync with Mac

As a long time Palm OS user, I leaned on to owning a Treo 680 since I'm already familiar with its interface, applications, etc. I use Palm's HotSync always and nothing is more important than having your data backed-up and synchronized. By the way, I've been using the Palm OS since the Palm m100 days (PDA only, not smartphone).

I purchased my Nokia E61 since this smartphone also has a QWERTY thumboard and Wi-Fi/802.11b/g (3G is just an extra). I use this smartphone for my Philippine roaming SIM. I instantaneously bought this since it is listed in Apple's site with iSync compatibility. With just a click on my MacBook, all my PIM data are synced with all other devices set-up for iSync.

I only owned my Nokia E71 for about 2-3 days (as of this writing). Since it doesn't come default with the iSync plug-in, I just downloaded and installed the same from Nokia website, paired it with my Mac and added it as a new iSync device. In just a few seconds, all my PIM data are on my E71.

I mainly base my smartphone purchase on Apple's iSync compatibility.

I'm also just waiting for the Apple iPhone 3G to be released by Vodafone in Doha to get one. Can't help it, I just love Apple!

Reasons I hate Windows (PC) and Windows Mobile (smartphone) is that its just unstable, it hangs, crashes, prone to virus, etc. No offense to Windows users, its just to his/her own.

By the way, I'd rather get the old Symbian smartphone than the new Windows Mobile.

Symbian OS

Windows is windows...the worlds hackers are always trying to hack it, and is usually sucessful.

Symbian is hacked into lesser often as there are more windows os than symbian os

Windows CE is able to work seemlessly with MS Office packages.

i have both. symbian nd wm. in smartphones symbian os is stable to some extend. if it's in a PDA wm plays the master role. coz symbian is always underpowered or just the bigger picture of that normal tiny symbian phones. if you are looking for a 'smart phone' symbian will be fair choice in terms of price and functions. but, if you are looking in to the 'PDA' segment then WM is the best choice. so, figure out requirement and choose wisely..... :)
