Should i bring the iPhone 4 with me or buy in Doha?

Have you tried taking your phone to the Apple store or a third-party Apple supplier? because I just spoke to Apple (in Canada) and they said, if you have a problem with the phone in the first year after purchase you can get it fixed at any apple store.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I think I will buy it in Doha since the prices are roughly the same and to avoid any warranty issues. But I read that the FaceTime feature in Doha is not available on the iPhone 4 - does anyone know if that's been resolved? Do all the iPhone 4 features work in Qatar? Please let me know if you can.

i understand that.. but can you explain to me why every time i update my iPhone 3G it always gets locked and i have to pay to unlock it again? i also purchased it from here in al nasir...perhaps it's a locked version and the shop did not tell me when i purchased it... he said it's from the US...correct me if i am wrong...

if your phone is unlocked, it remains unlocked.

iphone does not lock itself after every upgrade of OS!

i said that based on my own experience..actually, i have two iPhones (3G & 4)... the iphone 3G that i also bought from here in doha is not factory unlocked and got locked when i accidentally update its OS.. i paid 100QR to unlock it again..so when the iPhone 4 was released last year by vodafone, i immediately purchased it and did not experience anymore the hassle of getting it locked every time i update its OS...

my point is if you buy the unlocked iPhone 4 outside qatar, it will get locked again if you update it OS... but if you purchase it from doha it won't get locked as you update its OS from time to time...

the prices of the phones are about the same between here and Canada. I just bought one for my daughter in Edmonton at the apple store. Just make sure you get one that is unlocked.

The big issue is repairs under warranty. The speaker you use when on the phone, the earpiece on my daughters phone doesn't work. So we have to wait to get it repaired till we can get back to Edmonton.

Otherwise her phone works perfectly fine here. You don't have to worry about locking and unlocking if you are not locked into a plan in north america.

The problem can be availability. Now that the initial rush is over, you can get readily get iphone 4's here. Not so even 1 month ago.

i strongly suggest you buy it from here in doha because vodafone offers factory unlocked iphone 4 for QR2,850.. if you buy from doha there will be no problem of locking it again everytime you update it whereas if you purchase it there in canada you will not be able to update it as it will get locked once you do it... in that case you will have to look for a person to unlock it again and pay at least QR 100 to do the job...
