I DID search already! :-)

Good morning/evening (it's 10:10am here)!!!

Yes, I did use the Search function, as well as used the internet browser to find my answer, but I didn't!

I understand at the moment there is only Qtel which provides cell phone plans. Does Qtel sell cell phones, too? For example, if you choose Plan A you get a Motorola or if you choose Plan B you get a Blackberry. The reason I ask is because at home, cell phones are usually included in a rate plan, either for free or for a nominal fee. The phone that is included is usually a perk to signing up for the rate plan.

Anyway, if Qtel doesn't provide the cell phones, where do I go to buy an actual phone? What is the price range? Here I can get a Blackberry or an Apple iPhone for about 1500 Qatar dollars. Is that about the same?

I'm leaving my little Samsung here as my plan doesn't expire for another year and I'm passing it on to a friend. Otherwise, I'd bring it here and have it unlocked.

Thanks and have a great day/evening!

:-)

Most of the shops who sell mobile phones at reasonable price are small ones who does not have a website or even an e-mail id. There are some shops who have got websites but they are not offering online shopping but their prices will be 15-20 percent higher than the shops in the souq. The will have very limited assortment from one or two particular brands. You will find more models and varieties in the souq. It will be better for you to tell someone whom you know and already in Qatar to buy the phone you want as he/she will be able to buy it at the cheapest price.

Thanks Baldrick...I think the best thing is to buy one in Doha, in case the one I buy in Calgary doesn't work. Although, I think I can get the iPhone or Crackberry that is compatible for a better deal (I'll use my Christmas gift cards!).

Beela, no websites. The shops are everywhere! every street corner have a phone shop and the prices are pretty much the same all over Doha. You are looking at around $500 for a decent phone.

Pricing structure for calls can be found on Q-tel's website.

Well Beela here in Qatar there is no Plan system over here you have to pay and talk...If you want a Hala card sim you have to par 50 riyals and get the sim and you can reload your balance by putting your balance thru card and the 2nd is the GSM sim its a rented sim its also 50 riyals the name is Shahry...But the calling rates for GSM sim are much better than Hala sim.. So its up 2 you which Sim card you want to Have...Thanks

Cheers !!!

Welcome to the real world where you can choose the Phone you want without thinking about which plan you need. QTEL do not sell phones, Phones you get in the Mobile shops, here you find more models and more advanced phones than in North America.

They don't have Plans here like back home. Here, you just talk and pay :-)

You get the SIM card from Qtel, and don't worry, you wont' have a problem finding a phone. They are EVERYWHERE. Big price range.
