Does anyone here have experience with QTEL’s 3g on laptop?

After waiting fruitlessly for weeks on end for my ADSL to be installed I am starting to seriously consider going the 3g USB modem for laptop route. My friends back home in SA have all had very good experiences with this but they say it really depends on the network and the infrastructure (not Qtel strong points perhaps?)

Any feedback on speed, reliability, real-world coverage from a user here in Qatar will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

I've actually recently bought on and found it to be really good. As mentioned before there are different packages- I pay around 300QR a month, because I'm always on the go and so carry my laptop around with me to most places.

So far no problems. I live in the Garafa area and have had mainly good coverage. Be careful if you go over your limit- this is easy to avoid simply by clicking on the tools icon and seeing how many hours you have used so far.

Why did I get it? Because I'm living in temporary accomodation and also because when I'm out at cafe's or work to check e-mails etc.

It's very simple & easy to use. several of my friends/colleagues are getting it now.

Hope this helps.

I've used Mobile Broadband for a few months, but it is really disappointing , speed is no way near what QTEL promises, but since you do not have any alternatives then go for it.

.. btw I did check out all the info on qtel and the coverage map before posting the question but wanted to get some "real life" date and feedback experience from anyone. What Qtel says and what it can do not always same thing :)

Thanks again. Take care

Its Mobile broadband Internet service. You can connect to internet on a 3G network if there is a 3G covergae and the speed variation can be between 2 - 7 Mbps. But if there is no 3G then you will connect on a 2G and thats not very fast connection.

Service is affordable, if you use is wisely (i.e. dont start messengers and downloads). The price plans are

1G usage (download & upload) Qrs 100/month

3G Qrs 200/month

5G Qrs 300/month

USB Modem charges Qrs 799

Subscription charge Qrs 100 (one time)

** any usage beyond the subscribed plan will cost you as Qrs 1/Mb usage

My personal experience says ITS AMAZING!! a nice service if used wisely..
