Hi all

Please can anyone advise whether different dish antenna sizes are needed for different satellites? I have a 60cm dish with humax receiver. I get nilesat at the moment and wanted to know if different size dish is needed for arabsat/hotbird/etc.

many thanks
Adnan

Guys thanks for you replies.

Looks like dish size is important. If I understand correctly the geo orbit site recommends the following for qatar;

nilesat 75cm (mine is 60cm and works ok!)

arabsat 130cm

hotbird 150cm

I guess these are approximation but can anyone please confirm these figures from their own installation?

thanks again.

Hi actually 60 cm dish is enough for nilesat, if you need Hotbird too, you still can use the same dish, just buy an LNB with stand and ask the technician to position the LNB(so called Camera) near by dish matching the frequency of Hotbird. The technician will help you to do that.

You can find the "footprint" of Hotbird here:

http://www.geo-orbit.org/sizepgs/shtbrdwp.html

It shows which dish size you need in Qatar.

it depends on the strength of the sognal that any satellite is sending to this region ... if the signal is somehow weak .. u need a larger dish

for ARABSAT, NILESAT, & HOTBIRD one meter dish is good in gulf region
