I checked in August with official UK suppliers O2, you can only buy the phone from them with a contract, or buy from ebay(unlocked) but you will not be able to access the Apple website for upgrades and problem solving if you get any problem with the phone as unlocked phones will lose the warranty. Another option is to buy the chinese copy from Dubai for Qar 500 same spec and capabilities but a fraction of the cost if it goes wrong you only lose Qar 500. Also chinese copy will take 2 Sim cards on any network.

If the phone is unlocked officially / yourself you can use any SIM providers, buy unlocked phone from UK or here Starlinks?, or if you buy locked phone take to some shops here and unlock it paying some money. factory unlocked phone only you can update firmware (OS) whenever a new version available from ITunes. locked never update until a pawnage tool is available. you need to make sure it's not "Operator" locked, that way it will work with any SIM. If you want to get a contract phone in UK (due to the obvious price advantage) then there are 'unofficial' means to unlock an iphone , but they void your warranty and cause problems with some phones (at least when i tried them, maybe they're better now).
