Since yesterday I'm not able to browse any site on internet. When I'm trying to connect any of the site through internet explorer, automatically on screen page displaying message "Insure Internet activity. Threat of virus attak" and recommending to download software named perfect defender 2009. Is there any way out to get rid of this possibly virus attack or do i need to re-format window.

This kind of attack is called scareware. They scare you to think that you have virus and tries to sell you a software which does more harm.

to protect your PC you require three things.

Firewall, usually a built in (in windows).

Antivirus, AVG is the best, free and does not cripple your PC like Norton.

Spyware or adware protection. Windows defender is a good one for windows xp. its free and already built in vista.

You still have to be vigilant when you surf the net. You can unintentionally accept harmful software to be installed thinking they are from a trusted site.

If reinstalling windows is easy for you that it is highly recommended.

We had a virus couple of weeks ago. Even with the antivirus...we ended up reinstalling the OS. Not a bad idea to wipe the computer if it's a bad attack. Depends alot on what kind of virus you got. Try to find it with the antivirus software mentioned by other QLers and then Google other ppls experience with this virus to determine severity.

You need to install licensed any Anti-Virus software on your computer then you should run a cleaner on your computer and no need to format the windows.

Regard,

First thing first, install licensed Anti-Virus software on your computer. Norton, Kaspersky or any anti virus that can be available to you. Then you can run a cleaner on your computer to remove temporary internet files, cookies, history, etc and fix registry as well. I can give you this website to download CCleaner, I'm using this in our office to maintain computers.

You can also try installing different browser like firefox and google chrome.

Good luck!!

Well, if I get this right, its not a virus, its like an ad, I dont remember the name of this case, its some type of different virus that hides on ur computer, tricks u and tell u to do something u dont want, to advertise for something, so u somewhat got this file in there, and that program is saying that u have a virus (which u dont I guess) and is recommending its own anti virus for u, u could simply get rid of that by cleaning up the browser, prefetch, temps, restore points, recycle bin, and try and search for any wierd files and delete them, or u could simply download and install a fully working sweet updated antivirus, alot of stuff will do, but I strongly recommend Norton Internet Security 2009 V16, it has some certificate that its the best ever till now.

Good luck
