I've been in doha for 6 years now,I've noticed that prices are getting higher. For instance, rice (which is the staple food of asians),last month i bought 25kg costing to QR 96,considering good for a month's consumption. This month I came back again to the same hypermarket,to my surprise the mentioned item is now costing to QR 129!!(also canned goods, fresh eggs, processed foods, other basic commodities & most especially the room/flat rent).Do you consider that the cost of living in doha has come to rise?

Prices have gone up & are going up even more. Yes we all talk about it. But it is not only here in Qatar. It is all over the world. Yes this has to do with the oil prices, but it also has to do with money markets. The low dollar versus many other currencies..... The higher rents, the higher salaries all this has an influence on the prices of many staple foods and luxury items.

This is what is called the vicious cycle (unfortunately)

But what can we do? We all want more money, better salaries. So, this has to come from somewhere... and in the long run we have to pay for this ourselves.

But, and this is the more important issue, the poor countries that do not have the resources & development we have, also have to pay more for their staple foods. They do not think about luxuries. Have none of you seen newspapers or listened to the news. Do you not realize that many countries are struggling because of this. They have so many poor people, and now life becomes even more difficult for them.

Others had no food to buy in the past and now this is worse, at least we are able to buy food, even-though we bitch about it. So let us say thank you that we have food and stop complaining

Food prices have increased everywhere in the world and I am surprised no one has mentioned this in part of their answers. Every country is feeling rising inflation and Qatar is just following suit.

For all the news that is so easily available, I don't read about any Price Regulatory body that monitors the cost of basic items.

Once in a year a big show of work is made and photos are posted all over the town showing the action of such bodies.

But when it is required to act, seldom would one find these bodies questioning any rise in the cost of products.

Only an economist would be happy in such time as he would say that inflation is an indicator of economic growth!!!
