Get a Mac (Apple-branded computer)! You will swear you should have gotten one a long time ago!

The new entry-level MacBook aluminum 2.0GHz 160GB costs QR6,000 anywhere. The top model MacBook aluminum 2.4GHz 250

GB costs a little over QR7,000.

There are also the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro to choose from in their laptop line-up. The Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro are also available for the desktop category. You can go directly to http://www.apple.com to know more.

visit the qatar telecom website at www.qtel.com.qa for internet connection fees. for laptop, try to visit jarir or carrefour. if you are outside doha, it's better for you to buy one before coming over. i highly recommend hp laptops or if u have a budget, go for sony vaio. never buy acer....price is affordable but performance sucks!

If you are planning to come to Doha soon then, I suggest you to bring one with you Dell XPS, HP or Toshiba are good brands; cost of a good laptop in Qatar is 10% to 20% higher than in India or Dubai. Internet 512k and land line together with standard TV connection is at QR250/month and installation is QR300 I guess.

Second part of your question; you will know when you are here.
