Connection problem help required please

I live in Ezdan & have internet through the wall sockets which are rj45.

I wanted wireless so bought a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL gateway.

The problem is the wire from the Linksys device is an rj11 style connector which obviously won't fit the wall socket..

Can anyone suggest somewhere I can buy a suitable adapter please?
I've tried in Carrefour (where I bought the device) but they don't stock such a thing & as for advice, well forget it, worse than useless....!

TIA.

you dont want to replace it..

you can get wireless internet.

Just plug your RJ45 to one of the four RJ45 LAN Ports in the Wireless ADSL gateway and you will be able to receive wireless in the name Linksys.

You can send me the model no i could help you in better way.

if you are wishing to give wireless a desired name and security protection. you should do the following.

get one more patch cable ( i mean RJ45 Cable)

Connect one end to the Adsl gateway ( any of the four LAN (RJ45) ports)

The other end to your pc or laptop network port.

take interent explorer and type 192.168.1.1

it will ask for user name & password.

Give username: admin

Password : admin

you can see Linksys Setup page.

on top select wireless ..

in that page you can see Wireless SSID : linksys

change it what you want to give your Wireless Name. and click save ( dont forget to save)

Second you can see wireless security

Select any of the encryption and set your password.

Click Save and Done

Remove the cable from your laptop and try to connect through wireless.

On the gateway you can see the wireless light will be blinking.

Now you can get wirless internet.. the router( gateway) is working as switch+Accesspoint.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks Voyageress & sendwishes, your advice is much appreciated.

As I have the receipt etc, then I'll go back to CF & get it changed over.

If internet is already available through RJ45 in your room, then you purchased a wrong device.

Solution:

If you want to extend your existing internet connection through wireless interface, then you need to purchase an "ACCESS POINT" instead of GATEWAY.

ADSL Gateways is combination of ADSL modem and wireless gateway, where you need to connect your gateway to ADSL enabled telephone line thorugh RJ11 connector and wireless interface (sometime RJ45 interface for LAN) are avilable for client computers.

Kind regards,

Hi Toque, try the store at the top of Royal Plaza - they have a few adaptors there. Failing that, your best bet is probably the Sofitel (next to Sofitel Hotel is a mall full of gadget shops). Hope this helps!
