I would never exchange my Acer with another brand.
But if you buy a cheap type (whatever brand) you end up with a less competitive and non-efficient PC, especially if you use high performance demanding programmes and/or games!
The only disadvantage I have against ACER laptops is their battery life in comparison to other competitors.
ACER is older than the brands you see today and are among the top five selling brands in the world.
Just make some effort in asking what your needs are in a PC or laptop to get the right specs to buy...
the only thing about acer is its reasonable price....
it sucks, have been having all kinds of problem with it and the service agents "almana and partners" never bother to get it fixed in the warranty period, i spent additional money on fixing it even though warranty period is not over.

Oh yes, I have one bought on year 2006 for my wife and one new one just I bought last month for my daughter Nikki and she love it. It's the best seller in Doha market due its reasonable prices.If you go through people who own laptop,you will find 5-7 using Acer in every 10.
