Attention Fashionistas!

Hi Ladies (and fashion conscious men)!

I will be in Doha mid-February, if all goes as planned and am having a difficult time sorting out what clothes to bring. I have a lot of clothes. A lot. I like to shop but I have been resisting the clearance sales as 99% is fall and winter merchandise.

As I will only be able to bring two suitcases, what do you recommend I pack? I'll be working in an environment that is business casual, I think. I will bring 2 or 3 suits. I dislike wearing pants and have mostly skirts (all of which are short, but below the knee).

Since everything is air conditioned, should I pack a couple of light cardigans? Do I even need to bother with a jacket? Do I wear pantyhose?

Here, people were fashionable knee-high, high-heeled boots year round. Even in the summer when it is warm, we'll wear them with skirts. Should I even bother bringing mine?

Thanks a lot!

:-)

Shogun,

I'm a girl! I pack two suitcases when I vacation for a week. It will be tough, however, I will do my best.

Hi Oracle,

I will definitely pack lightly. I just bought new luggage that weighs next to nothing, which means more stuff can fit inside.

I think it's my other stuff that will be more heavy, i.e. shoes and toiletries. I really don't want to buy new shoes when I have a lot of new ones already.

I'm sure I'll be able to get all I need in Doha, should I leave anything behind.

Thanks!

hello beela.. just an advice : if you are travelling to doha from calgary make sure to bring the required weight allowance only (it's 50 lbs/per bag) and as u said u r allowed to bring 2 suitcases.. ur friend is right that it is more wise to pay for an extra luggage than to pay for the extra weight coz it's more expensive.. and to doha it is way more expensive than fiji extra weight can cost u $400 and extra bag will cost u $250.. as far as i know US and Canada outbound flights have the same rule.. i always have this problem when i'm travelling from washington (IAD) to doha.. best thing to do - leave all ur heavy stuff and just shop in doha.. they have good shops there.. happy trip..

Hi, is it Bald or Rick :-)

I will bring a couple of jackets...colours need to match, ya know? I'll definitely have one on as I'll be leaving Calgary and it will probably still be cold and snowy.

Thank you for the suggestion about frequent flyer cards. I have no idea which airline(s) they are using to book my ticket. I have looked at a few different websites and it seems like the majority of them fly from here to NY and then into Doha. A local carrier probably for the first bit...don't know if that would affect the overall allowance?

A friend of mine who travels frequently to Fiji mentioned it is cheaper to take a 3rd piece of luggage instead of going overweight with 2. She said that she paid an extra $100 for her 3rd piece while her sister had to pay close to $300 for her 2 suitcases being over the limit!

I imagine my spring and summer clothes can roll up pretty small, and won't weigh a tonne. I'll be leaving my bulky sweaters and winter gear behind. Yay!!!

Thanks!

:-)

Beela. Nights can get chilly so bring your jacket. You can wear it on the plane to save luggage space!

Also, if you haven't already, get a frequent flyer card for which ever airline you are using. They generally offer an additional luggage allowance, even for bottom rung travellers. That might let you bring more of your extensive wardrobe :o)
