Qatar National Library will start the summer season with a range of activities that celebrate Eid al-Fitr, offer learning and development opportunities for children and young adults, and explore historical and scientific subjects.

The first day of May will introduce participants to “Writing the Qur’anic Text Through the Centuries.” As part of the Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World celebration, this event will shed light on the calligraphy used in writing the Qur’an and the artistic elements of the book. The session will also explore the general traditions of writing and producing Qur’ans.

On 2 May, “Language Barriers and the COVID-19 Pandemic” will showcase how Qatar’s government used 12 unique languages to effectively communicate with the public during the COVID-19 crisis.

On the same day, the Science Book Forum will host a discussion titled, “Science Book Forum: Qatar-NASA Joint Mission Concept to Study Deserts.” This event stems from the Space Act Agreement between NASA and Qatar Foundation, represented by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute. It will highlight the mission’s goal to explore the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica, as well as map the shallow aquifers in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and understand how they respond to climatic and human drivers. This special forum will feature Dr. Essam Heggy, Project Principal Investigator, and Dr. Artur Chmielewski, Project Manager from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with an introduction by His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State, Qatar and President of Qatar National Library.

On 6 May, participants can join the Library to know more about the Sira of Prophet Muhammed [Peace Be Upon Him].

Children will have the opportunity to learn some of the most fundamental and critical skills during the “Programming Artificial Intelligence for Children” session on 8 May. This session promises to boost children’s creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, help them get familiar with artificial intelligence concepts, and enable them to write their own program at the end of the session.

On 15 May, join the Library to discover how the holy occasion of Eid is celebrated and observed in countries around the world.

On 22 May, Mashael Al-Hejazi, a Qatari photographer, in collaboration with the Fire Station, will conduct a virtual workshop on “Cyanotype (Blueprint) Photographic Printing Process,” to explore the history of this artistic process and help participants make their own cyanotypes.

That same day will see children enjoy creative writing during the “Let’s Write a Story About Eid” workshop, presented by the inspiring writer Saba Al Yafei, in cooperation with Lusail Publishing and Distribution House.

The “Practical Strategies to Promote Speech and Language Development in Children” interactive session on 26 May will discuss how parents and educators can support the development of children's speech and language skills.

On 27 May, the Children’s and Young Adults’ Library will host a training session, “Dealing with Creative and Gifted Children,” to show teachers and parents how to nurture and guide gifted and creative children to help them get the most out of their talents.

The Library will continue to host a variety of fun and engaging events online throughout May 2021.
