The iconic National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) has announced an exciting opportunity for community members with an artistic flair.

NMoQ will hold four online exhibitions over the year featuring crowdsourced content. The virtual exhibitions will cover different themes including Qatar’s Culinary Journey and Habitat & Shelters.

According to NMoQ, the exhibitions seek to serve as a platform for sharing creative responses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exhibitions include the following:

Qatar’s Culinary Journey

Intangible heritage is an important theme explored across the National Museum of Qatar’s permanent galleries. This exhibition will shine a spotlight on traditional and personal interpretations of Qatari food.

To participate, you can share 2 to 3 photographs of traditional Qatari cuisine. This may include anything from karak to gahwa to mathrooba, harees, and other dishes. Participants are also asked to share a short statement explaining how the photographer learned to make the dish photographed.

Habitats & Shelters

The theme of this exhibition takes inspiration from NMoQ's 'Qatar Natural Environment' and 'Life in Al Barr (Desert)' permanent galleries. It will take a look at how humans and Qatar’s wildlife take shelter in times of uncertainty to survive.

The museum encourages the community members to share photographs, sketches, or paintings of retreats they have created within their homes in response to the COVID-19 situation.

NMoQ Creates Together

History reveals how hard times have led to the creation of some stunning artworks. As the current crisis has resulted in several shifts in the society including work from home and distance learning, people have increased time for creative exploration at home.

This exhibition will feature the community’s artistic response to the pandemic and its related lifestyle shifts.

This exhibition is open to ages six through 18 and will be celebrated during children’s month in November. It welcomes drawings, painting, sculptures, photography, and video.

Mal Lawal Home Edition

Mal Lawal ('of the past' in Arabic) is a Qatari biennial exhibition, which was first presented at the QM Gallery ALRIWAQ in 2012. The exhibition offers a public platform to share personal collections.

Mal Lawal 3, the next edition of this exhibition is scheduled to be held at the NMoQ in December. However, a special home edition of this exhibition will be run online.

NMoQ calls upon the public to share photographs as well as a brief description of their personal collection.

Those interested in contributing to any of these exhibitions can share 1 to 3 photographs, illustrations, and/or sketches, as well as a 100-word text responding to the specified exhibition(s) to [email protected]
