Ministry of Culture to launch Doha Publishing Fellowship Program
Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCS) in conjunction with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Press is all set to roll out the first edition of the Doha Publishing Fellowship Program (DBFP).
Slated to take place on Sunday, January 12, the program will see a two-day forum, convening 42 Qataris, Arab and foreign publishers from 22 countries across the world.
The two-day forum featuring seminars from top publishing industry experts will be held during the upcoming Doha International Book Fair.
The inaugural program comes under the supervision of the Qatari Forum for Publishing and Distributors (QFPD), part of the MCS.

QFPD was set up in 2019 by the Ministry with the ambition of raising the professional level of Qatar’s publishing and distribution industry.
Some of the other goals of QFPD are to enhance collaboration between publishers and distributors and distribute the production of Qatari authors locally, regionally, and internationally.
According to the General Manager of QFPD, Ibrahim Abdulrahim Al Buhashim, the new publishing program will offer Qatari publishers a platform to connect with Arab and foreign counterparts.
He underlined that the program is aimed at establishing professional relations between publishers and boosting the concept of intellectual property. It is also meant to encourage publishers from around the world to trade rights for books and further promote cultural exchange.
He further mentioned that DBFP will allow Qatari writers to access other cultures, as publishing experts from various countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, the US, France, South Africa, Italy and Argentina will come together for this program.
During the program, attendees will also be able to benefit from seminars on copyright, and universal copyright market, and the latest measures being taken to further enrich this industry.
