WATCH: Doha International Book Fair 2020 opens, featuring 335 publishing houses
The 30th edition of the prestigious Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) kick-started on Thursday, January 9, with the participation of 335 publishing houses from 31 different countries.
The slogan for this edition is “Do you then not contemplate,” inspired from a verse from the Holy Quran.
A book lover’s paradise, DBIF is the oldest and largest book exhibition in the region and is one of the most-anticipated events in the country.
Held under the supervision and guidance of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Qatar at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), DBIF celebrates a country as a ‘Guest of Honor’ for each edition.
For this year, France is the country being honored as the book fair coincides with the Qatar-France 2020 Year of Culture.
The past editions have recognized United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Japan, Brazil and Germany for the honor.
Over the years, DBIF has grown in stature with increased participation from the world’s leading publishing houses.
In addition to offering visitors the chance to explore an extensive variety of books, DBIF also presents an opportunity for them to engage in some absorbing cultural activities such as lectures, workshops, and seminars.
With over 797 pavilions spread across an exhibition area of 29,000 square meters, DBIF 2020 is an event that is sure to keep you hooked with its plethora of offerings.
The 10-day Doha International Book Fair is open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm every day except Friday when it will run from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and on Thursday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.
