which tires
I too have had the daunting task of choosing which tires to decorate my cadillac with, while being wary of the tire salesman forcing me to buy a specific brand.
I'm thinking whats the difference, currently the cadillac has Pirelli tires on them who have had their fair share of doha travelling and now its time to say good bye to them.
I've been told pirelli tires are QR950 fitted each.
Firestones are QR550 each, federals are QR460 each and some indonesian brand is at QR350 each.
These are the prices quoted by some guy in Al-Khor...my question to QL members, is there are difference between firestone and pirelli, apart from the brand attraction, the difference in spelling, other than they both have the same guarentee and all.

Since they are the only part of your transportation that actually connects with the road, choosing tires for your vehicle and maintaining them in excellent condition is a serious safety consideration. Today, there are many brands, all of good quality from which to pick, and that in itself can make your decision a bit more confusing.Truck Tires
ud better pay Q tires a visit, down on salwa road towards the industrial area
else, just storm a few places here in doha, and your bound to find them
Guys I had a terrible time yesterday, remember how I mentioned I ordered the firestone, well they had come yesterday and sacrificed my gym session to get the 4 tires fit.
Well not exactly when I inspected my new goodies turned out they were traction B rather traction AA which I require.
Traction basically means the tires ability to brake or both wet and dry conditions on asphalt.
It starts from AA(being the highest) to C(being the lowest).
The sales guy at the khor area kept on saying all westerners use traction B, and that no ne in the world makes AA, i told him not to baffle me, as my caddy has AA, and his showroom already stocks AA but not in my size.
So fellow QL members where in Doha can I get tires from and or Pirelli tires, I work in Ras Laffan and don't have the luxury of time while travelling.

dont go for kumho...my experience with it is not so good
for me is better bridgestone tyre exspecially RE series....it's good and not noisy but all are up to you and don't buy cheap tyre because after one month noise will come out mostly during this summer
good point...either way the size is 235/45/R17 they only use the Performance types..hehehe yup i need performane tyres to go between signals of ras laffan at the max speed of 20km/h (go figure!)
Though at times I'm required to overtake a looney who is driving excessively slow.
I did order the firestone ones, though I'm extremely careful about the traction/temperature rating.
was funny though i went to the tire guy, and told him that I want two now and two next month and if he could tell me which to swap I'd do it...he checks the left front one and goes im wondering why this one hasn't burst yet, then looks at the front right and goes when the 1st one burst this will follow.
Comes to the back tire tyre and says this too is pretty bad tire, and then suggests to change all.
Though eventually i do have to change them so why not just do them all now.

to make things a bit easier,
id ask 2 questions
1) are you the type that changes the oil every 5000, just like the manufacturer recommends? (for example), or would you take the risk and go for the extra 500 km say?
if youd take the risk, go for the more expensive
if not, go for the medium priced, but brand name
2) the sales man most probably wud give you the most common size, but a general note to keep in mind, the smaller they are, the rougher your ride gets.
Either way, your in for the experience
I wud recommend BRIDGESTONE & Yokohama, Kumho are cheap and durable as well. I feel expensive ones are just expensive becoz of the brand name and might be the same quality as mentioned above. Kumho is korean.
Unless u are into driving at exteremely high speeds on highways every day, u dont really need those expensive ones. thats my opinion, others may differ, no offence to anyone, they might be having more knowledge abt this.
Both Firestone and Pirelli got different models and there are lots of differences between the models.
I am using Sumitomo, GoodYear, Bridgestone and Kuhmo on my various cars and they all have their strength and weaknesses.
