hi friend...

its a simple question you asked.

but the answer depend on how you drive the car?

if you abuse your car, then it needs more maintenance...

the basic things is...

1)engine oil and filter replacement.

(for normal cars if you are using ordinary oil, then change it every 5000km. if you are sing synthetic oil, then change it after 10000km. in BMW they use ordinary oil and need to change at 10000km)

2)transmission oil/gear oil replacement.

(for manual gear box its 20000km. and for automatic its 40000 or 50000 depends on brand.)

these are the main things.

apart from this, you must maintain the coolant level, brake fluid, power steering fluid, battery level. replace air filter at every 5000km (if it is paper filter) replace the fuel filter every 10000km, replace or clean the AC filters. replace the spark plug,(depend on the spark plug used)

break pads must be checked. its usage depend on how you drive. if it is less than 45% then its time to change. that is safe. (we can use till it is 10%)

check the bush and bearing, the soft you drive the longer it will last.

now regarding timing chain/belt.

in older days chains were used, and now a days belts are being used. the time for its replacement will be mentioned by the brand. because its different for different cars. the important thing is, you must change it before it breaks. if it breaks, it may damage your pistons, valves and head.

these are the things you can do by your self. now there are few more things. cleaning the fuel injector/carburetor, clean the piston and cylinder.

check the oil seal and oil pressure. checking the compression pressure, check the gap of spark plug. check the fuel pressure. etc etc....

have a safe driving.

do periodic maintenance..

good for you and your car....

also for the people on the road.........

take care

Be aware if you are going to their Service Centers..

The Mechanic will tell to have a road test so that he will know exactly the problem???????? Then after the test

he will tell you, that he wl fixed your Car in your Home then they charged you a huge amount warning you, don't tell the office between you and him only. It is better to go through their office at least there is a warranty and the spareparts are originals.

I am not going to name the names.................

Sag, honestly. The best you can do is buy a new car, drive it for 3 years and then buy a new car again. As soon as you take it to maintenance here, it is SPOILT!

timing belt usually is 120000kms. But let a trusted mechanic of yours do the checking. He knows best! The key word is "trusted".

You have to follow the Manual from the Car Manufacturer.

That is why they made the car and they have studied for a decade. If you have or you own the Car you can make and experiment of your own, buddy... Let say every 3000 Kms of running you have to change oil, or there is some sound you have notice then you have to visit to the service centers for checkup. Sometimes advice from other people it couldn't help you.

I want to learn from people's experience, lp. Anyway, thanks.

Yes, sag, the intervals are given in the User's Manual, if you have one.

Thanks LP. You mean only when it doesn't work properly or is there any fixed time to check and replace to prevent further damage? Now my vehicle has run 100000 km but it is fine. I have only been doing routine oil, filter changes and once battery and brake pads replacement in five years time.

timing belt, for all i know, should be replaced on or before 200,000 mileage. other stuff, depends on your use. if you can afford it, do change oil/filter/transmission oil/greasing of joints every month. maximum once every 3 months if you can't afford. brake pads, once in 3 months, depends on the usage also.

Timing belt, serpentine belt, brake pads, fluids, transmission filters, oil filters and other fluids, grease in several joints of the suspension, battery status, sensors, sparkplugs, and anything that doesn't work properly.

I mean the parts that need to be replaced after certain time or mileage. This morning my colleague told about some timing belt which needs to replaced after 100000km,etc. I am talking about cars.

To which level do you want to go with your maintenance? A Formula 1 car is dismantled totally after each race.
