Teachers

Why do school teachers forget that children are CHILDREN and not 30 yr old adults?? Is it right for a teacher to complain to a parent in front of the child and forget to compliment that child for his or her good points too? Is that good for that child's confidence??
"Teachers". Ha, ha, ha. In Qatar? Ha, ha, ha. They are salesmen!
It is a disgrace. No unqualified person should ever be put in charge of teaching cildren....don't call these people 'teachers' because they are not teachers.
Well i agree, teachers must motivate the children and take out the positive points in them and ecourage them to get the best out of them. I have seen teachers praising the bright , well they are bright not becoause of the teacher and the teacher has ZERO contrubution in that effort. The teach is the one the parent depend to convert the negative part on the kid to be converted to positive and bring out the child potential and teachers who fail to do that are USELESS and NON PERFORMERS and they must be PUNISHED. I also do not accept in some schools only selecting BRIGHT students , this is SELFISH APPROCH. The school wants to take the name for the hard work and abelity of the child without any effort. A good teacher is one who convert a below average child to a performer and if he or she fail to do this SHE/HE must be answerable and subjected to action by the managment.-GOD bless the poor children who are left with such unprofessional teachers
Maybe the problem is the kids and their over-indulgent parents and not the teachers.
flexicode you are right. The number of unqualified teachers taking classes in schools has soared during past years however it is not the case everywhere. As a qualified professional I do meet trained teachers who are qualified in their home countries to an excellent standard and doing a great job in certain schools here- on the contrary there are few who started their career as secretaries and stewardess opting teaching as a profession which is sickening me and often make me wory as you said about the parents who put their children's future at great risk.
We as parents always want to see teachers who demonstrate they have the skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the post but sadly who has the contorl over it?
Further in many schools the problems with discipline and bureaucracy simply put many qualified people off. My question who is responsible for all these?
That is too high a price to pay for a life in Qatar with children. What worse can a parent give to a child than an unqualified and untrained teacher? This must be one of the incidents that the OP was witness to and is upset about. The child is facing the same and similar teachers on a regular basis. The damage might not be apparent upfront. Parents are often found complaining about the unprofessional approach of teachers and that sends me thinking whether it is worth sending our children to a school here in Qatar?
Cabbage, agree with your points. Through my experience I would say that the children of a certain age trust their teachers, even more than their parents. For them teachers are the inspiration. Her positive motivation to the children should always be constructive in nature and shape the entire life of the children.
The problem occurs when those who are not qualified to be teachers opt for this profession. A perfect teacher would never try to demotivate a child in public.
That is you and I being sensible.
However welcome to the world of Ex- Pat Education.
This child will have been ‘pushed by a kid but more likely a teacher’.
They (the Teacher) pick and choose and they choose and pick.
Then the *hit hits the fan and the bright, intelligent, middle class kids show their true colours.
he OP’s child will actually be a nice person (girl or boy) that has been pushed into saying something or doing something he/she did not like - but it will be down to the Teacher. xoxox
Any student of any age should be praised first for what they have done right. Anything negative should not be personalised but set as a target.
THE TEACHER SHOULD NEVER FORGET THE FACT THAT A CHILD IS ALWAYS A CHILD!THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO HURT HIS FEELINGS IN PUBLIC.THIS WILL ONLY BRING IN ADVERSE EFFECTS.
NEVER FORGET THAT THE PRIMARY DUTY OF THE TEACHER IS TOWARDS THE STUDENT.
Teachers are a mixed bunch, especially over here.
I don’t know your story – so I can’t comment on what happened – but I will guess that your child is: - according to the Teacher
(a) not working hard enough
(b) disrespectful
(c) joking in class
I would rarely speak about a child in a negative way to the parents – unless it was a wakeup call for the kid and they needed that ‘shock’. Done it twice – one backfired and the other worked.
Children are children and of course at all ages they act in different ways. We as parents tolerate the troublesome twos and threes and then we get to them being pre- pubescent and then on full puberty and then University years and we still tolerate it!
I am at all those stages with my four. So I can empathise/sympathise with it all.
Should we as teachers talk to children as though they are 30 – of course we should not. What we should do is look at the behaviour before the kid got to the stage they needed ‘discipline’.
Hand on heart – as a Teacher and a parent- your child will have said/done something wrong – HOWEVER, I will also say –the Teacher did not handle it well.
Well, in my opinion an ideal teacher never lets the limitations of her children restrict their vision. She constantly motivates them to reach ahead and broaden their horizon. Criticizing a child infornt of others -I totally disagree. She should try to encourage the children and refrains from criticizing them. The perfect teacher prefers to give positive motivation to her children. I don't know what prompted you to post this, if you are experiencing this issue with your child, then why not you be frank with the teacher and give few guidelines on motivating children. Don't be afraid to voice your opinion after all its your child.
I think the teacher needs a mentor. Approach the management of the school
