Safety- single Asian female in Doha

By Stepaholic

Hi, I'm a malaysian chinese, got an offer to work in an oil & gas co in Doha. How is the overall safety like for a single asian female? I read that the women are stared at and some accosted. Any advice on whether it's wise to come to Doha? Better be safe than sorry. Any advice is greatly appreciated....

Pretty much Qatar is very safe, except for the traffic, but If you have time and willing to listen for a good old advice: You could always visit me at my Confession Booth. I have a special pamplet that will help you with lots of reading about the do's and dont's in Doha life style.

I guess these are standard advices for anywhere in the world. Though I noticed there's only one female voice responding. As long as it's also safe being alone at home, I guess it's ok then.

Thanks to all for your advices.

Indeed it is safe unlike many other countries..and yes ..walking or travelling alone ..you will be approached for lifts ..heh heh ..even the swankiest mercs slow down ..of course all the helpful people trying to reach you ..uhh home !! it is a very safe place at the malls too ..unless of course ..people want to touch your butt ..oops mistakenly am sure ..no other thoughts cross their mind i assure you..

the very best place to stay ..seriously ..cause all you have to do is smile and the help is always at hand ..in various disguises //yup the the ultimate aim being help you ..

welcome ..you are with open arms !! No pun intended !!

Have a nice stay ..!!

Hey, I am a single asian lady here in Qatar living with the Parents! Yes, you will get the occasional stare sometimes.. but you will get used to it. Also, don't forget that this is still a muslim country hence, just wear decent clothes all the time so as to not get the nasty stares. ;)

About the safety, Qatar is safe.. just don't go out alone scouring the streets of Doha at night especially along dark areas. Mind you that the ratio of females to males here are suprising. It's still like 2:5 I reckon.

Just be very cautious when meeting new people, especially guys. ((I am not generalizing okay!!)) Some might take advantage just because you're new. Oh and a tip, sometimes guys may tend to keep on asking you out (notice the willingness and the unending perseverance).. so, to just lay them off softly tell them that you're engaged or married. It truly helps.

Anyways, feel free to PM me anytime. I'm willing to help. I hope Doha will be the place for you. Well, I realized it wasn't for me so by August I'm saying, "Au revoire Doha!"

;)

I've lived in KL before with my wife and she feels much safer here than there.  As Novita says, if you use common sense it is very safe here.

alternatively ... you can hire Ksarat or The Xonic as your bodyguard if you go out. They will look after you very well ...

Dont worry about Qatar, as long as u dont go out of ur house late at night and try to live in an open area where there's help. Qatar is quite harmful, alot of rape cases are to be heard off. It's sad but true. As long as u r careful and u dont visit areas that are dangerous alone like deserts, clubs, streets, malls etc... at odd times, u r in the safe circle.

well.. it depends on how u dress in public, u know really short skirts, tight jeans and flimsy tops are ok if u're going out clubbing, and most people are ok with them anytime, but some people still give the occasional frown or stare.... but its opening up...... possibly u might enjoy it...

hey there

welcome to Doha...and i hope u ll like this city

i m from abroad also and as being a male i can say that the staring depends on what u wear...i realised that the clothes makes you the target lol

but about safety i can say that this city is so safe to live in and u ll not be unsafe when u are at street..

ı hope you ll not be sorry for your choice of coming here...

Use your common sense just like you are in KL you should be OK. Dressing up modestly ... And never go in the dark alley on your own ...

Honestly ... even though i am not single. I am asian and female. I go out alone very often. I feel very safe here.
