This is life and we are going to be all in the same situation at some point. It is frustrating to be told to go suddenly and without proper notice, but it is becoming the norm here with these budget cuts. It is sad but that's life in Qatar.

I think and personally feel that retirement age should be 65 years BUT it is a good move to retire at 60 years becoz 65 years is too late for a person to get retired.Person should earn upto 55-60 years and move back to settle down finally and enjoy roaming around. 65 plus means kids are already settled and you have to go in a seperate house depending with new strangers as house helps. Not a good thing.

I think 55 is best age for retirement but yes if the person is exceptionally talented and hard working and desired they can keep him upto 65 years but yes again I insist it is not a good thing for that person actually.

What many employers don't understand and realize is that experience comes only with age. Youngsters though they may be more dynamic and have a fresh face, enter the market with bookish knowledge. They are yet to "burn their hands" and learn things the hard and practical ways which are totally different than what was taught in the classrooms and through computers. I have seen one such incident here in Qatar when a young man in his early thirties joined a company, convinced the management he could carry the responsibilities better than an old timer working there, and had him sent home. He lasted for just 22 days. It is ironical that most world leaders who head their nations are past 60. The world's largest democracy India has a president who is 80 years old and a prime minister who is 65. Putin is 63 years old. Nawaz Sharif is 66 now. Hillary Clinton who is a contender for the US presidency is 68 years old. The question is: When people can trust such aged people to run a country, why can't they trust such old timers to run a company?

Its simple logic. They would have found a replacement at cheaper salary, that's it. Expats age above 50 should always be prepared to face any type of consequences. The days beyond 50's are bonus days from god however hale and healthy one is.

Well said Britexpat@

In my country the retirement age is 55 comparing to that this 5years of extra income. Ofcourse we cant expect a pension in a foreign soil I assume he is not a Qatari. Whatever it is long story short I appreciate & jealous about the gentleman's capability & achievement BIG Salute & wishing him good health.

There has to be a retirement age , so that a younger and more dynamic workforce can come through. In the GCC , it is also a means of "turning over" longer term workers and bringing in locals.

Sadly, we are all affected by this.

Did he know that this rule existed ?

Dear Hydqat, Though retirement meant for Employee to decide to quit his work and enjoy his rest of life with family and for himself things have been changed and now it is vise versa.

Perhaps my opinion is everyone should retire from their work and fulfill their commitments by 50s and wait for Retirement day. Else the youngsters will not get an opportunity.
