Rent Deposit - 1500QAR withheld for two tiny scratches on hob

Hello,
I would like to ask for advice on the above. Upon checkout of my previous apartment, I was was shown two scratches on the glass face of the cooker hob, and told I would have to pay for a replacement. These scratches are absolutely tiny - each one less than 2 inches long, and are barely noticeable (in fact they had to be pointed out to me).
Other than being barely noticeable, they are purely cosmetic - in no way affecting the functionality of the hob. However, the management agency see fit to completely replace the hob in full, and would like to deduct 1500QAR from my deposit, to do so! The hob is relatively new (fitted about 6 months ago), but clearly not a quality item, as it was barely used. I personally find this whole scenario crazy, but can this action be considered acceptable?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all. I have a meeting with the compound manager tomorrow - I will absolutely stop off at the Rental Disputes committee on the way back, if things do not go my way
While they are literally twisting your arm as most real estate agents do, I suggest you approach the government office that looks into rental disputes and see if they could help you out. The office is located just opposite to Holiday Villa on the road going toward the Human Rights Building.
Sadly this is a common trick from these blood suckers. Since they hold your deposit, they know that they've got you by the proverbial curlies.
I would suggest contacting the Consumer Protection people
I would say you pay rent to use the property. Usage leaves tracks. The repair has been already covered with the rent. The company you are dealing with are criminals.
